Williams Find A New Bud. True.
14/07/03
Williams are set to announce a new sponsorship deal later in the week with Budweiser beer, according to paddock sources.

The team has called a news conference for Wednesday in London, during which they are expected to reveal the new deal.

Although Sir Frank Williams' team has not given out any details about the purpose for the conference, reports suggest it is to unveil Budweiser Beer, owned by the world's largest brewer Anheuser-Busch, as their latest sponsor.

Budweiser have reportedly signed a five-year deal with the team, believed to be worth an estimated £50 million. The deal will make Bud one of Williams' three main sponsors.

So what will be the new color scheme?

As part of the deal did they sign up Dale Jr. and commit to testing on ovals?

j/k, more money is good. American sponsors are good, especially a major one like that. Pretty funny to see the logo though.

Looks decent. I figured that BMW would require the same colors.

i hope williams will somehow retain some blue on the car..their car will look funny without blue. when I think of williams, I think of a blue car..remember the red and white williams a few years back when zanardi was with them..imo, the red/white williams looked like shiet back then..I don't think the light red and white budweiser color will look good on the car..now dark red like ferrari is a different story.

I don't know if it was smart or a fluke that they didn't have a cigarette company sponsoring them, but...

Good thing I like the taste of Bud!!

i think it was smart they dont have a cig sponsor.... they are the only team to have an anti-tobacco sponsor with NiQuitin CQ!

Actually, some analysts say it's a brilliant scoop for Williams to be the first team sponsored by a pharmaceutical company's (GlaxoSmithKline for the Ni Quitin CQ) smoking cessation product, especially given the impending ban on tobacco advertising affecting F1.

I saw the new logo this morning while watching qualifying for the British GP. It's subtle, tasteful. Doesn't stand out like a sore thumb, or plastered in large letters down the side of the car. Me likes.

Wow, the logo is quite small for a major sponsor. I hate Budweiser (tastes like water) but a sponsor for BMW.Williams is good.

Budweiser is definitely one of the WORST beers made! It tastes terrible, like most beers made in this country! :complain

Money talks, that is why Williams is using them as a sponsor. If the Bud labeling gets any bigger, it would be a disgrace to BMW.

A German engine should be sponsored by German beer...

looks like Bud got a little more than just the logo out of it.... after the race they had the "Budweiser race recap" or something like that... i dont recall that it was always like that was it?

Hopefully they can use some of their big budget to hire some awesome Budweiser Pit Babes(tm) and give the Fosters babes a run for their money.
Just don't use the same "pit babes" from the NASCAR series :biglaughb

Do any of ya'll understand how sponsorship actually works? Someone actually has to be WILLING to fork over the money. ;)

Budweiser was, so Budweiser is the sponsor. The team doesn't care if its a German beer...it's another $50 million to run the team and pay their employees. Who cares how it tastes...you don't have to drink it. Be happy that their $$ will be invested in making the Williams/BMW car faster. :buttrock

Trivia...name the "Budweiser of Germany" Beer company that was a sponsor of the E30 M3 DTM cars.

Warsteiner is definitely better than American Budweiser. European Budweiser is quite different than American Budweiser since European's would not drink the kind of crap beer that most Americans drink!

Then explain why Budweiser is now a "hip" beer in many high-end European pubs and taverns, particularly England.

The average German doesn't sit down to a high-end beer either. They drink the cheap stuff when they are watching a game just like we do when plopping down in front of Monday Night Football. Warsteiner is the cheap stuff. Better than Budweiser?? Some say yes, others no...all depends on what you like.

Read what I said! "European Budweiser is quite different than American Budweiser "! It is NOT THE SAME CRAP served here in the USA!

Also, speak for yourself, I never do what you said, "drink the cheap stuff when they are watching a game just like we do when plopping down in front of Monday Night Football" I would never lower myself, plus the cheap stuff makes me sick!"

Also, have you ever lived in Europe to try and believe what you said!

Stange...my buddy who spends a lot of time working over there says it tastes about the same. All the guys from England who work over there think it's hip and drink it up, while he opts for the local bitter. :buttrock

Dude, I never said YOU did. I was referring to the masses...the "royal" we as it's referred to in literary terms. Sorry to offend you beer snob. You are obviously the man for drinking "cool" beer, just like those guys in England who think Bud is cool...;)

"Never lower myself"...That's a pretty condescending attitude towards people that happen to have a taste for a different kind of beer than you. Grow up. This whole thread if full of that crap...it's just beer.

Personally, I don't drink much of anything but a few microbrews. I don't even tend to drink beer at bars, but opt for liquer instead. However, I don't consider my friends lower than me because they choose to enjoy a Bud or Miller. My dad can't stand the taste of a Guiness, but he loves a cold Coors Light...what a freakin loser, right?

Also, have you ever lived in Europe to try and believe what you said!

Huh? Can't say that I understand what you are asking.

Neverless, I've never lived in Europe. Only visited there a few times. My roomate has spent a few years in Germany, and a few of my friends go over for work every now and then.

People always complain about BMW drivers being snobs, and this thread tends to back those claims up. Not only are BMW drivers snobs about their cars, but their beer also. :biglaughb

Be appreciative that Bud choose to give their money to Williams instead of bashing them because you think your tastes are more refined (that goes for most on this thread).

As a St. Louis resident, I have to say that Budweiser is a pretty good beer! Not the best, but better than most brewed in this country.

I used to work in AB's IT department and as an employee, we were constantly bombarded by AB propaganda... It was interesting how many other beer companies are owned or partially owned by AB.

Companies owned (partially or whole) by AB are Modelo (Corona), Tsingtao, Redhook, Bacardi Silver, Carlsberg, Elephant Malt Liquor... and they have brewing partnerships with Labatts, Newcastle and Guinness!

Speaking of Guinness, I was surprised to find that the beer company and Guinness Book of World Records are the same company!

Back on the subject... If AB paid 50 Million to have the little sticker on the scoop, what does HP/Compaq pay for being the major sponsor?

Guinness rocks! So does Grolsch lager. The coolness of their bottle is another contributing factor... I can remember as a kid seeing my grandfather pour Guinness on his corn flakes instead of milk. (Old Irishman) Then he'd go out into the farm and work until there was no more sunlight.

I personally am a big Ford fan. My friends and I consider BMW the German Ford while Mercedes is the German Chevy. We hate Mercedes. Plus my Ford truck will put most cars to shame because it dynoed @ 335hp/716 torque to the wheels....
