View Full Version : The Habersham Winery Dash for the Grapes...Sat November 1st!!!
BKarktic328i 07-14-2003, 07:52 PM EDIT: For those not reading to end of post, this event is now being held on Nov 1st, 2003, and the name of the event has been changed to:
"The Habersham Winery Dash for the Grapes"!
Ok, it took us awhile, but we are once again in the early planning stages for our annual run to the GA mountains with a day full of events...
Last year the meet consisted of 65 BMWs(Mini's, all years of 3'ers, 5'ers, 6'ers, 7'ers, 8'ers, Z's and of course M's!), 7 sponsors, raffle gifts, a t-shirt for all participants, a "spirited" drive into the N. GA mtns., a wine tasting and tour, and a group dinner at the end of the day. This year we will have more advanced notice of who is coming since this will be held in October(leaves changing colors make for killer photo ops). We're anticipating having about 100 cars and catering at the winery...and by the look of last year, this will easily be reached....
This is a very good friend of mine who's family owns the winery, so we do it right! What we are doing now is compiling a contact list so that I may keep in touch with all that wish to attend(with this many people, we need to give the winery and caterers a proper "heads up").... also, this thread will serve as an on-going update/who's coming list....
Please email me at bknisely3@yahoo.com if your interested!:buttrock
EDIT: For those not reading to end of post, this event is now being held on Nov 1st, 2003!!!!!!!!!!
Bryan
BimmerDawg 07-14-2003, 08:01 PM I'm all over it!!!
If there's a mountain drive, you know I'm there! :D
Has a final date been set?
BKarktic328i 07-14-2003, 08:03 PM Not yet... but it looks like you have earned the right to be the first to know! Most likely one of the last two weekends in Oct....but we're not sure..... We need to check the winery's availability.
BimmerDawg 07-14-2003, 08:10 PM Alright! Just make sure you don't make it the weekend of the 17th...that's the Petit LeMans. :)
BKarktic328i 07-14-2003, 08:19 PM Yep, we're planning on riding on the heels of Petit... Hopefully we can all get together for that weekend as well.....
punknamedjimmy 07-14-2003, 09:12 PM what if you are under 21?
BKarktic328i 07-14-2003, 09:17 PM We certainly don't discriminate against age, but the winery may card you..... would definitely not miss this because of age! So much more than wine tasting....
Bremsen 07-14-2003, 09:34 PM I'm right on your bumper Geordie. This one won't be hard to get Nancy to go.:buttrock
alfatech 07-15-2003, 12:21 AM count me in.... I'd like to have some good wine. Spending 3 weeks in Italy last month got me spoiled... really good wine that was $5/bottle there was on par with $40/bottle stuff here....
ARCpolo 07-15-2003, 08:26 AM Bryan, good to hear from you again. Whats the deal w/ your E36? Did you ended up getting shocks for your springs? Anyway, I have not talked w/ Chris, but I am sure I will be there..Bimmer, Wine, drive, cool Peeps. Count me in buddy
Marco
BKarktic328i 07-15-2003, 10:07 AM hey marco....whats happenin'? Yup...I went with the Bilsteins... very firm, but the car handles great now...love it...........
Saw the DIY thing at your house.........but a wedding the night before got the best of me.............. you know, those pesky open bars.................
ARCpolo 07-15-2003, 11:47 AM Ryan, I cant agree more. I spent 2 months in Italy about 2 years ago around this time, and I have nothing but good comments on the cheap Italian wine/food, women till today. You cant beat $10 5-course meal out on the street overlooking women w/ highheels on cobblestones....
alfatech 07-15-2003, 07:45 PM Marco,
man... when I went to Italy 4 years ago it was great... $40 fed 8 people a 5 course meal... now when I was there last month it was awful we couldn't feed 4 people a 5 course meal for under $150 euro... when Italy went from lira -> euro apparently they got a really bad exchange rate. So now that the euro is stronger than the dollar... we're fubar :(
Icecream ///Man 07-15-2003, 11:58 PM I'm down with this event. More info please.
ARCpolo 07-16-2003, 08:00 AM wow I guess Italy is good for only one thing now...
ARCpolo 07-16-2003, 08:00 AM BTW....did you get my PM Alfatech?
BKarktic328i 07-16-2003, 09:58 AM Icream///Man........info will be posted as the event gets closer......thanks for your interest.
BKarktic328i 07-16-2003, 01:23 PM Good to hear Ali....keep tuned to this thread for details
Everyone, please send me your contact info to bknisely3@yahoo.com so I can keep one consolidated list of who is interested.....

i know but will the just let me chill in the winery, i don't dirink anyways.
BKarktic328i 07-16-2003, 09:31 PM Yeah...it's actually a large shop connected to the actual barrel room and distillery.... so, definitely a family place...with a tasting bar in the middle.... last year, we had a bunch of people under 21 ..and it was a non-issue................... Nacoochee Village is a relaxed little river village with the winery in the middle...pretty sweet...........
punknamedjimmy 07-16-2003, 09:42 PM cool
how much are people going to be drinking? i'm not a real fan of people drinking and then getting in cars.....
If its just wine tasting I don't think anyone will be drunk...
BKarktic328i 07-16-2003, 10:14 PM Ali has got the idea... more of a social gathering than a party.... too much liability for us and the winery to have everyone boozin' then driving.... Typically, we do the driving up there, maybe a run through a good road or two, then taste, then eat dinner...and by that time, your good to drive home....
Nothing crazy as far as drinking heavily.......... but the vino is good!
BKarktic328i 07-16-2003, 10:22 PM your email addresses are coming back to me as "undeliverable", can you please resend to bknisely3@yahoo.com?
Thanks!
zeit00 07-17-2003, 11:22 AM Sign me up as well +1 person..

ARCpolo 07-23-2003, 08:35 AM so do we have a set date??
BKarktic328i 07-23-2003, 07:52 PM Workin' on it............. my guess is one of the weekends after Petit....
Bremsen 07-23-2003, 08:30 PM just FYI, there is a large gathering at the plant in Spartanburg in October you may want to plan around also.
http://www.euroautofestival.com/
Bremsen 07-23-2003, 08:36 PM ahhh motherf*&#@$, they're the same weekend. What moron scheduled a festival the same weekend as the Petit?
BKarktic328i 07-23-2003, 09:16 PM Dunno, but you can bet I won't create a conflict!:mdrbig
Micah D. Cranman 07-24-2003, 02:39 PM I'm down, and this time I'll be driving. ;) (For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, don't ask. For those of you that do, it's only 6 more weeks!)

BKarktic328i 08-08-2003, 03:03 PM Bimmerforum Admins.....Are you interested in being a co-sponsor at this year's Run?

Please let me know!
MDabney 08-09-2003, 11:00 AM Bryan,

Spread the word!
BKarktic328i 08-11-2003, 08:45 PM :D
atlantaM3 08-12-2003, 05:36 PM I don't suppose anyone contacted the person who organized the ORIGINAL V run last year, given that he did come up with the name, the event, basically everything that this is/has come to be?? So far, I have not seen anything from him, was curious abouthis take on it.
BKarktic328i 08-12-2003, 07:31 PM Hmmm not sure how to reply to this one.... except that Chris and I had been discussing the follow-up to the original V's Run since the last one....
I assume this is Jaimie, right? I met you over at his house at the wine and cigar party.
Chris and I put the event on together last year.... Everything posted on this board has been during or after we consulted each other.
I am assuming you have not talked to Chris...otherwise you would know that he said for me to handle the Bimmerforums promotion..... :dunno
BKarktic328i 08-18-2003, 09:52 AM Well, both the attendee list as well as the sponsor list are growing....
Their may be one small change to the name...but everything else is on......
Who else is interested....???
BKarktic328i 08-19-2003, 09:44 PM Anyone know any other good places to advertise this meet?
We have the winery locked in.....can't wait.
Infernal_Halo 08-20-2003, 03:56 AM Sorry to post this so far past original post date but i'm new. I would be VERY interested in this event and am sure some of my friends would be as well. Let me know when we are have specifics....

guess that means i'll probably be going too :D
BKarktic328i 08-26-2003, 09:59 PM Good to see ya'll are pumped for this....
Today I worked on ironing out the menu for the catered portion of the event.............. Gourmet to say the least......
The chef of the Nacoochee Grill up there out does himself.....
So far, the tentative itinerary goes like this:
Meet up (prob same place as last sunday, or somewhere close)...at or around 10:30...leave 11:30 or 12..........take a nice drive up North, arrive at Habersham Winery at about 2, do several sessions of Winery tours, then do the tastings of the wines led by Habersham's winemakers (just after harvest I might add), then proceed out back for gourmet food, raffle of products, and mingling.............................
This is tentative, but you get the idea.....
It looks like their will be a cost per head to cover the days events and the food.... It will be a per-person cost, last year it was $25 a person. It will probably be about the same cost this year, but participants will receive much more for attending (you'll probably wonder how we did it!)...
This is much more than a drive....its a full day of events!
Stay tuned!:buttrock
punknamedjimmy 08-26-2003, 10:02 PM any discounts for people that won't be doing wine tasting (yes i really am that cheap) :D

ATl to Mtn's of GA? Where are these mountains? Northeast GA? NOrthwest, GA?
Trying to figure out how far I am from home at the end of the day... Atl is only 2 hours, no prob.. if' I'm 4 hours from home at end of day however, small problem...
Thanks Guys -
BKarktic328i 08-27-2003, 06:05 PM Hi jc................ It normally takes us about 50 minutes to an hour to get up to the winery.... we will do a short spin around the mtns up near Dahlonega (sp?) GA, then head over to Habersham Winery.
At end of day, your looking at an hour or so back to the top end of 285 (the outer-belt)..............then your ride home.
Some folks are getting cabins or hotel rooms up near the winery...or some are coming in from surrounding states and staying in Atlanta.....
Let me know if there is anything else I can tell ya....
Bryan
Bremsen 08-27-2003, 08:10 PM Yeh, the rooms up there are pretty cheap also. I bet you could find a nice one for $50/night.

youy should at least have the brass to be honest about this, what the issues actually were.....
BKarktic328i 08-28-2003, 09:01 AM I co-founded the event last year.... not just Chris.... I chose to do it again this year same as last, we had different ideas, and we chose to do 2 meets, each doing one on our own.
I have taken the high road, and am using a different name to avoid ANY confusion.... This event is in no way related to what he is doing....
BKarktic328i 08-28-2003, 09:17 AM Feel free to cut an paste this attendee list if you are already on it and want to add a +1 to show that you are bringing a guest...or +2, +3.... the more the merrier! tabasco 09-02-2003, 07:14 PM I count 48 people and 34 cars. Wow...this is getting big! How many people showed last year?
BKarktic328i 09-02-2003, 08:13 PM Last year was 60 cars/80 people.... soooooooooo, I am assuming this year will be even bigger...
I have not put all of the respondee's on BF... a lot have come from Roadfly and other boards...
I suspect that by the time we come to mid Oct that we will have somewhere around 80 to 100 cars...and maybe 120 people.
I have locked in 7 sponsors, and have arranged for catering for 125 people..............................Hell yeah!
Stay tuned... t-shirt designs are coming to a close, and their lookin' sweet....

NewM3er 09-03-2003, 09:32 AM When is it? Any details?
BKarktic328i 09-03-2003, 09:56 AM Hi NewM3er...... most of the info you want is in the post, but here's a recap so you don't have to dig....
It will be held Saturday, Nov 1st...
Stay tuned!
BKarktic328i 09-04-2003, 08:47 PM Revised Again....and again...and once again................just gonna keep editing this one for awhile.............

Greg
BKarktic328i 09-07-2003, 10:38 PM yumyum,
Hit me with an email at bknisely3@yahoo.com so I can add you to my distribution list.........thanks!
ecpreston 09-08-2003, 12:51 PM New to the Atlanta area, so I'd like to meet some of you guys. Hopefully I'll have my E30 up to speed so I can attempt to keep up. :help Bringing the wife too. :)
John540i 09-08-2003, 04:22 PM in an M3, maybe my son in his convertable. Plus 2 customers and
a couple E34's and wifes and womever else we can get.
Srainey1 09-08-2003, 04:27 PM Just now saw the thread. Sounds great except for all the paranoid people replying. Just bought my first Bimmer (E36 M3) and would love to meet some more enthusiast in the Atlanta area. Have you set a date for this event? -Sam
Bremsen 09-08-2003, 04:33 PM Originally posted by Lobster
Heh, I just read this thread. Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen - but I hope it all goes well. Wine tasting + Mountain run != Drinking + driving (?)
I'm actually posting to find something out - who is the "Eric Kim" listed? Is this the Eric Kim that I know?
Tom
Actually you have it backwards. Its Mountain Drive + Wine Tasting. The tasting and dinner will be after a short drive through the mountains.
We are all responsible adults. *NO DRINKING AND DRIVING* If you feel like you are not able to pass the sobriety test please ask me or one of the other attendants for a ride home or to a nearby hotel.
BKarktic328i 09-08-2003, 04:55 PM Thanks for your concern.... and yes, we have carefully considered this.....
We have consulted lawyers, and covered all the bases to ensure that everyone has a fun/safe time. We have taken out "event" insurance, and there will be a detailed liability release form to sign as well......
This is not going to be a party...... just a time to meet other Atlanta bimmerphiles like myself, in a beautiful place... I also figured that a lot of car nuts like myself might be wine nuts (like myself)!
John...good to hear... looks like your spreadin' the word....
Strainey1... can you please shoot me an email so I can add you to my distribution list, and also tell me if you plan on bringing any guests? bknisely3@yahoo.com
Lobster... not exactly sure which Eric Kim that is....
Were you interested in joining us on this drive? if so, please see Strainey's directions....
Bremsen 09-08-2003, 05:12 PM Originally posted by Lobster
I'm not paranoid, I'm just pointing out that the event organizer could easily get sued if anything happens. You don't actually know that everyone is a "responsible adult" and that they won't try to follow the group back. Be VERY careful (whoever is organizing this).
Hopefully it won't come to that. I know Georgia's laws are f%#ked up in that regard. It should only be the drivers fault, but its not the only backwards law the state of Georgia has.
Sam, date is set for Saturday Nov. 1.
BKarktic328i 09-08-2003, 09:45 PM Time for a recap:buttrock

rwindleyme02 09-10-2003, 12:19 AM Pretty sure I'll be there. Hopefully I can get all the maintenance on my car done before then. :)
I've skimmed some of the threads, but can't seem to find a mention of price.
Now I know most you guys are true ballers(*cough* Marco! *cough*) and don't have to worry about the piddily expense of sipping down some fine wine for the evening, but unfortunately I'm not so blessed at this current state of time.
So - reasonable, outrageous? Ballpark figure?

I don't think we have a meeting place for the drive confirmed yet, but the winery is in N.Ga off hwy 75.
BKarktic328i 09-14-2003, 07:26 PM Hey guys........ I have been out-of-pocket for the last few days attending my bro's wedding in SC..... I am playing catch-up with email....so I apologize to anyone that is awaiting a response.
Things are coming along great. As far as a meeting place is concerned, I think we're gonna shoot for Perimeter mall at the closed down JC Penneys.... There will be a lot of cars, so I have to clear it with "the powers that be"...but that location is perfect.
Thanks to all (Ryan) that have been keeping the questions answered! I hope to have everything squared away and final by end of month so I can pay the caterer and meet all of the costs....
Anywho, now that I am back in town, I'll be trolling the thread again...................................:redspot

rwindleyme02 09-15-2003, 12:09 AM Yeah, a police officer came by last time and he was just looking at the cars. I guess you could get an asshole though...
zeit00 09-15-2003, 08:43 AM I was wondering about the police officer.. I was leaving right as he pulled up. BTW: What time are we meeting.. I actually have a American Heart association walk to do that morning... Let me know.. ;)
BKarktic328i 09-15-2003, 02:00 PM We are working on the itinerary this week...
I would like to leave for the winery by 12:30, so maybe meet at the mall from 11 to 12:30. I will need a little extra time to get all of the waivers signed and to get the raffle tickets passed out.
gonna be fun.:buttrock
Micah D. Cranman 09-15-2003, 02:24 PM Brian, please contact me regarding M3 motorwerks' sponsorship of the event. I need to go over some details, etc. with you. E-mail or phone is fine (see sig).

Bremsen 09-16-2003, 10:19 AM  And still 6 weeks left!
Myself, my buddy, and my brother would like to join (each of us bringing seperate bmw's) but if we're not going to be wine tasting, just going on the drive, would we have to pay? Not that i'm a cheapskate or anything but I just don't want to pay for other people's wine tasting.
Peace
-Ali
Micah D. Cranman 09-16-2003, 12:21 PM It's not just wine tasting, Ali. There is:
- Dinner @ The Winery
- Raffle for tuning products
- A free event T-shirt
- Event Insurance that has to be paid for
- Lawyer's fees to draw up waiver
If you're gonna go, you should pay. Besides, I know you're not broke. :stickoutt
BKarktic328i 09-16-2003, 03:29 PM The charges are for exactly what Micah mentioned.... but also add table and chair rentals from the caterer, use of the facility, among several other costs....
For approx $25...you'll receive:
A full day of organized events including:
The drive up there....then,
Winery tour given by the winemakers
Wine tastings given by the winemakers
Event T-shirt
Fully catered gourmet eats
Sponsorship raffle of products
Other small door prizes
Actually, people have been asking me how I am able to charge ONLY $25. I am not even including the tastings... so....unfortunately, the price will not change if your not tasting the wines... The food is the biggest cost....
I should have an official cost and itinerary pretty soon, hopefully in a week or so. This thing is a beast to organize.

BKarktic328i 09-24-2003, 05:52 PM :buttrock Hello to all! Well, after much blood and sweat, we have finalized just about everything that will make up "The Habersham Winery Dash for the Grapes!" driving event!
The itinerary is as follows on Saturday, November 1st:
11am-12:30pm Meet at Perimeter mall on the vacant side where JC Penney's used to be. (Try not to show at 12:25, because there are forms to sign and last minute things to take care of!)
12:30-approx 2:30 Take our "spirited" drive up North to Habersham Winery via a scenic route. Maps and directions to the mall are to come.
2:30-4pm Tours of the winery, followed by the tastings of the wines.
4-approx 5:30 (or til the last one leaves) Catered event with a sponsorship raffle including goods from The Bimmer Store, M3 Motorwerks, Active Autowerks, Bavarian Autosport, Bekkers Imports, AWE Tuning, and others!
The entire event will be that of a social one, so we can all enjoy each other's company and talk cars(or whatever else comes to mind)!!
There may be some "minor" changes in store, but this is how is stands today.
To all that plan of attending, please send your $25 fee to cover all of the overhead of this event. It will be $25 a person (not per car), and I will be glad to issue receipts.
Submit payment to (as soon as possible as we are thousands in the hole!!):
Bryan Knisely (also make checks payable to)
5501 Glenridge Dr. #215
Atlanta, GA 30342
Any questions, feel free to contact me at this email address or by phone.
Thanks!
Bryan Knisely

punknamedjimmy 10-01-2003, 07:39 PM wait, we have to pay ahead of time? i thought we payed at the event.
i'll let my friend know and try and get our payments in soon.
BKarktic328i 10-01-2003, 08:20 PM Sorry if I wasn't clear before.......
The winery, the caterer, and others are wanting payment in advance..... Its gonna be thousands, so I am collecting a few weeks in advance.
So.....I need to have payments to me by October 25.
This will also weed out anybody that says they are coming, then doesn't show.....:embarrasm In that case I would be stuck with the expenses.......
Hope everyone is ok with this.... Check or money order is fine...just send them as I listed in the above post.
Micah has help me come up with some killer logos...can't wait to see them on the shirts! This is gonna be awesome.
Thanks guys!
Bryan

:az:
///M3Hellrot 10-16-2003, 10:14 PM I am going to be in Jacksonville as well to see the Dawgs beat up on Florida. I have already paid for a hotel reservation and a ticket costing me over 150 bucks so......I am not ditching that. Maybe next time.
BKarktic328i 10-22-2003, 09:27 AM And now for the food that will be served at the event:
1. BBQ Duck Quesadillas-house smoked duck w/ ancho chili bbq sauce
2. Nacoochee Valley Crabcakes-lump crabmeat and red pepper coulis
3. Goat Cheese and Spinach Gospinis (spelling?)
4. Lamb Pirozhkis-kind of like a turnover i.e. a light puff pastry filled with lamb and some spices
5. Jerk Chicken Tenders w/ mango dipping sauce
6. Big ol' pot of Venison Chili
Gotta love it!
yumyum1667 10-22-2003, 11:49 AM Man the menu sounds great. You are making me hungry just talking about it!

Hodgson_100 10-26-2003, 05:02 PM Hi there, new to the forum here and will be signing up for the drive momentarily. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun, we're looking forward to it!
BKarktic328i 10-27-2003, 03:34 PM Ok folks.........We're on the home stretch! "The Habersham Run-"Dash for the Grapes!" is this coming Saturday, November the 1st! This note will serve as an "official" itinerary for the days events, and although they are not set in stone, we will try to stay "somewhat" close to it.
As of now, the day will go as follows:
--Meet at Perimeter Mall where the JC Penney's used to be at 11:00am. We are asking that if you are able to, please show at 10:30am. We will be at the mall by 10:15am or so. Everyone will need to sign a couple of release forms/waivers, and get their t-shirts.....and that never happens quickly.... We are expecting approx 115 people in attendance, so we need to do what we can to get us out of Atlanta at a reasonable time. .
--Depart for our drive/journey to Habersham Winery at approx 12:30pm. We are hoping that this is the latest that we will all leave, so that we can arrive at the winery before or at 2:30pm.
--From approx 12:30-2:30pm, we will take a planned route which will be sent to you in a few days after the mapping is finalized. We realize that it is not realistic to keep a caravan of 70+ cars together, so we will probably end up breaking into groups of 15 or so....
--We hope to arrive at Habersham Winery by 2:30pm or just after. We have reserved the gravel parking lot between the paved lot and the road. I hope to be there ahead of everyone, so that we can try to park in an orderly fashion so that we all fit in the space allotted (and provide for good photo opps!)
--From 2:30-3:00pm, we will take that time to park, socialize, and take photos out in front of the winery.
--At 3:00pm, we will head through the winery to the backside that we have reserved. We will be greeted by Habersham's winemakers, and then begin the tours and tastings.
--We are requesting that the food be brought out at 3:30pm. People may continue to tour the winery, taste the wines, socialize, and then begin to eat.
--At or around 4:30pm, we will begin the sponsorship raffle, and then wrap the event up by 5:30-6:00pm.
Since many have asked, dress is casual. Weekend attire/jeans are the norm. Just be as comfortable as you can! We will be sending out the map of the drive we will be taking as soon as it is completed.
All paying participants will get a raffle ticket and wristband at the mall.
As far as the goodies go, all paying participants will receive a "Dash for the Grapes!" event t-shirt when we meet at the mall, an event wine glass at the winery, and then have a chance to win goods in the sponsorship raffle.
FYI... The winery does have a full license to drink on premises, so it is permissible to purchase wine inside, then open bottles in the back for consumption (we will not be providing wine to drink with the food, only soda and water). If this is to take place, it is with the understanding that people drinking will not be driving.
We need everyone's support to make this a safe event!
I hope this note serves to give everyone a good idea of what will transpire this coming Saturday. If you are still planning on coming but have not remitted payment, please confirm with me ASAP, as I have to have a final headcount to the caterer tomorrow!
And, of course, even if you can't make the drive, come join us for a few hours in the Perimeter Mall parking lot!
See everyone soon!
Bryan

BKarktic328i 10-29-2003, 02:16 PM Some things to keep in mind for the Drive....
Check fluids, belts, and last but not least, have enough fuel....full tank would be the safest bet.... don't want to run out.
Also, please bring 2-Way radios if ya have them... much easier than the cell phone.......and safer!
Anything I am missing?
:eyes1
yumyum1667 10-29-2003, 09:42 PM Do you have a final list of everyone that is attending?

Greg
BKarktic328i 10-29-2003, 10:40 PM It is a constant work in progress....in addition, I am expecting quite a few to "just show" on Saturday...but here it is so far...

yumyum1667 10-30-2003, 01:57 PM Cool if anyone else is going to the Oktoberfest PM so I can give you my cell # so maybe we can hook up later. I am just staying up the street so there will be plenty of drinking on my end. No driving of course.
