Hi All,
I'm about to make a trip down to LA area, staying in San Bernardino. I've heard hwy2 is a great road. I've been driving and riding in the mountains around bay area, so I'm very interested to visit this road while I may be bored to death:D in LA. Here is the question. Does anyone know about the recent road condition? A friend of mine told hwy2 is icy and snowy in the winter, and I do want to make sure the road is safe for spirited driving before I kill myself:nono. The trip will be the end of this week, and the driving will probably take place some time next week.
Any input will be appreciated.
Chris

There's actually a drive scheduled for Saturday morning at Angeles Crest.
Some have said it's icy/snow at the higher elevations.

That was fast.
Thanks
Is there a portion of road better than others?

It's closed right now. Snow's been intense all weekend and especially today. I'm sure they'll plow it tomorrow or Friday, but we are going to get more rain on Monday, so it may get closed again.
I highly recommend you stay away from the crest when it is snowing. It is filled with Los Angelenos who bring their kids up to the mountain for a day in the snow (and to cover their cars in it. wtf seriously). They drive 5mph when it starts driving and think that they'll die if they go any faster.
It is a great road, but I wouldn't go this week. It isn't the time to drive spiritedly up there.

I'd cancel it if I were you. You won't have any fun. Every family in the basin is going to be up there this weekend for the snow. It'll be crowded and slow going. Last year it took us hours to get off the mountain when we went there for snow.

Hmm, I'll have to talk to the people nearby and who put on the drive. How are the other roads up there? They were talking about driving Tujunga?

It is snow from about 15 miles up and it is icy about 20 miles up...chains are required after 18 miles up...road is closed 39.8 miles up....I was there twice this week, I know.
