Hey everyone,
My parents have an 03 X5 4.4i Sport, the battery is dead and we need to change it.
Could someone tell me where the battery is. Is it under the rear seat, or
in the trunk?

In the trunk, under the spare.

it is buried under the spare as stated. it is not what you call easily accessible

wrong. it pretty easy to replace. rip the spare out and its like a 5 minute job. just make sure you write down all your radio stations and junk. or you could hook up a jump battery to it to keep the memories

for someone that works on them every day. than yes. but for your DIY it is a little more of a pain due to the tailgate having to be down and reach over to pic up a 30 lbs battery.
I was meanig it was not like a 3 series to where it is right there on the right side and you have clear access

It is technically easy, but physically hard. Pulling that HEAVY spare over the tail gate and then the HEAVY battery over it is a Bi%^^h.
Dont let the battery totally die out on you, like it did on mine. I didnt even have enough juice to open the tail gate. Had pull all out thru the rear doors.
(no I wasnt smart enough to try and open the tail gate while I was trying to jump the X5, which failed BTW)

dont the x5's have that thing at the front (as youre looking at it) of the boot that belongs under the tire and hooks onto the boot latch and the 'tailgate open' button? you rest it on the button, open the tailgate and it pulls the tire up and out so its heaps easier to pull out

it does have that, but most of the time the jack is put in after the holder and you have to fight it or you break it off the mount.
