Auto theft and burglaries has been on the rise where I live and work so I've decided to protect my baby.
I've contacted the Stellar Alarms distributor who said he can provide the following discounts:

1. 10% off for 5+
2. 20% off for 10+
3. 25-30% off for 20+

This is for any system they have for BMW's.

click here to check out the various systems.
http://www.stellaralarms.com/products/bmwsystems.lasso

If there is interest, we would need to call them directly to purchase. I can provide the number and extension of the person I've corresponded with.

I've heard mixed reviews of these kits, some say they are 100% PNP, others say they aren't. I'm in the market for an alarm kit, if anyone can shed some light on these kits, please do so.

i guess they have a new website? I have had the hardest time finiding information about them of late :dunno
when i was in the market for a system a few months ago and their website did not match what was indicated on their ad in the roundel (http://www.autoloc.com/bmw), i eliminated them. Ended up going with the OEM system.

I'm interested. It's got to be better than the orginal BMW alarm that in the car now.

ArcticFox

I have one....it is pnp. There was ONE wire you had to run...that for the LED. No biggie.

Also, mine would not work...turns out there is a fuse that was blown....a fuse that is all by itself, near the sterring column! WTF? Why would they put one fricken fuse all by itself? Simple...it is for the factory alarm and hard to get to....and being as the Stellar uses the factory alarm harness, it makes sense.

Other than that "problem", it was pnp and still works great after nearly 2 years. Oh, you DO have to "secure" the alarm unit to the underpanel (the slide out panel under the glovebox). But that is no big either. Two holes and a few zip ties...Done.

Thanks ArcticFox for the feedback!

There's a total of 8 so far who are interested. Six from DTMPower and 1 from here, plus me = 8. I'll make contact with the distributor to see how we can get at least 10% off. If we can get 2 more, that's 20% off. Any one else need an alarm?

axel
08-13-2003, 01:41 AM
still not sure as to their quality. I've heard many problems with them...limited range....reprogramming...etc... I am in themarket for an alarm ASAP, just don't know about these Stellars. Need some more feedback from those with experience.

I'll ask....but, I don't see why not.

Here's the response I got from the distributor. buttah, this is prior to your question, so this doesn't apply to you, but it may.

"It would be easier to compile a list of the vehicles , and what systems you want. Once I have that , then have them call me direct at 800-873-4038 ext. 303

Regards,

Jason"

so, email me your vehicle type and what system you're interested in and i'll forward to him.

bump to the top

ja///Mnn
08-18-2003, 09:53 PM
Well, I have at least 16 people who want in on this.

According to the distributor, if everyone commits, he'll lock us in on 25% off of "your price" as indicated on their website. Make sure you know what the "your price" is before calling him. That way you'll know exactly what you are paying with the discount.

If you are interested, call him at 800.873.4038, press 1, then have him paged. His name is Jason and mention this GP.

He needs CC info and type of system you want for your vehicle.

If you're interested, but not on the list, go ahead and give him a call.

Thanks
:)

ja///Mnn
08-19-2003, 04:04 PM
Per Jason, the last day to get the 25% off will be next week Monday the 25th. If you haven't called yet, go ahead and give him a call. Thanks.

ja///Mnn
08-22-2003, 12:24 PM
This is just another reminder that if you haven't called yet, you have until Monday to get the 25% off unless you make special arrangements with Jason to purchase after Monday. But you still need to call by Monday regardless. If you aren't on the list, but want to get in on this, by all means give Jason a call.
Thanks

Just an FYI...This is an email I got this am:

Hi Andy,
My name is Knute and I will be handling this group buy. Jason is no longer with this department. I will be the person to contact if you have any questions or when placing the order. The group buy will go the same way. I would like to give you one more week to gather people and have everyone that is interested call in. I need the name, address and phone number of everyone committed to the buy. You can reach me at 800-873-4038 extension 300 or 303. Thank you and have a great day!

I'm being optimistic in thinking that Knute doesn't have a current list...That Jason still has a list of people that called somewhere on his desk.

Is it possible for those of you that did call to chime in so I can get a rough show of hands. This would help validate my theory that more than just 3 called. Thanks:)

Anyway, they took down my information again (minus credit card#, and this time I heard them entering it into a computer) and will call me once they have all of the people who are in on the deal to lock in the discount. So, everyone who wants in on this, please call in this week.

and this one

http://www.autoloc.com/detail.lasso?itemid=KL550

The first one that we are getting is 150 and even after 25% off is 112.50.... the second one is only 90 bucks....

the pictures are the exact same and after reading them I can't find a difference unless its that our is PLUG AND PLAY and the other isnt. FYI, Stellar and Autoloc are interchangeable, Stellar owns AutoLoc. I emailed Knute about this along with my info but he hasn't gotten back to me ( i will call him tmrw)...

Just got off the phone with Knute. He said he was cutting it off tonight and will start calling tomorrow to confirm the orders and get the CC info if needed. He's currently at 13 people and said the discount was at 20%. If he gets 15, the discount goes to 25%. So, if you haven't called yet, jump in on this and we'll all benefit. To answer your other question AutoLoc and Stellar are not interchangeable. The BMW45P is BMW specific and plugs into the 12 pin port on your vehicle. The AutoLoc part# KL550 is a hardwire system and is not BMW specific. Also Stellar and AutoLoc are brand names. One does not own the other.

I assume that w/ a 25% discount we got it for 112.50 and some how it was 22.00 to ship the package by FedEx ground. I ship Dell desktops for 22.00 using UPS Ground so i doubt it can be that much. Oh well, i shoudl be getting mine tmrw... hopefully its the right one.

Vendors sometimes negotiate a get a flat rate for shipping. Sure, it seems high for something the size of a shoebox, but it would seem like a great deal for the size of a suitcase.

Dell, I'll bet, has a little more negotiating power than Stellar. :)

Just a guess.

NO... i am saying that I buy DELL's and have resold some and ship them out in the same DELL box and it's been 22-28 bucks to ship a 40lb DELL desktop. Trust me, it doesn't cost them 22 bucks to ship this... it costs them like 5.50 -7 bucks...

For those of you who received and installed your system, and needed to access fuse 47, where did you find it?
I looked everywhere under the dash, both driver's and passenger's side, but to no avail. Thanks for any help anyone!

09-14-2003, 12:12 PM
Nope.. I got the same thing as ///Mdex did. And I even bought 2 of them. The LED light never went on.. nothing happens from the get go. I did an extensive search for the fuse #47 and even opened that up too. Turns out I ALREADY HAVE the fuse #47 installed and the fuse is fine. I even switched out the fuse for other fuses but still nothing. I'm pretty sure the brain unit is a piece of sh*t. And yes, tech support is only arround when you're at work. Not on the weekend when you're trying to install these things. If I can't get it sorted out by monday I'm returning both units.

Anyone who bought the BMWSTX get it installed yet? I tried to install mine today and noticed that the wire harness plug that goes into the receiver (the long white one) has 13 female connections while the receiver/brain module has 14 pins. They don't go together.

With all of the problems everyone seems to be having, I'm not getting a warm fuzzy about this purchase.

Same problem I had - they are shipping me a new harness. It took two calls before they shipped it. And of course, since it's their mistake they shipped it next day (NOT) - slo-mo next week ground!

I just read something at the bottom of my invoice:

"Please note that there are no refunds on electrical items, custom orders, or open merchandise.....All returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee"

- I would think that a keyless entry system is electrical
- of course I opened it to install it

I am going to raise a major stink if they stiff me for 25% upon my return for a non operational product they sold me.

Yeah, but it's not like we're returning it because of buyer's remorse. We're returning it because it doesn't freagin work. There's a huge difference. They're going to get served if they don't get this right.

I left Knute another vmail, no reply. I sent him a email about the return process, and he replies:

"Call 503-693-1918. That's the return department and they can help you there."

Technical Support is what answers, and then being out on hold for factors of 10 minutes at a time as a long distance call.

"KEN" the manger I just spoke to tells me this:

- since I have instralled the product, all they can do is "warranty" it, and send me a new one. I DON'T WANT A GD NEW ONE, I want my money back

He tells me that if I return it, which I can't BTW since I've installed it, that I'd still loose 25% of my money for the restocking fee.

So I just blew $133

Everybody call KEN and bitch up an unholy storm

I'm supposed to get my new/correct wiring harness today. I'll probably install later on tonight and see what happens. If it doesn't work I'll be asking for my money back. But I'll keep you posted.

Dispute the charge with your credit card company. They will at least withhold the money until the claim is settled.

And at this point we still have no one who has a working one???

Geez I think this is the one time that procrastination actually worked in my favor. I haven't been able to contact Knute for my keyless entry and then I went out of town. Now I come back and check this thread. Sounds like these guys are giving us the shaft and I avoided it.

Finally got it working. Turns out my car DID have fuse #47 already in place.
The troubleshooting instructions that comes with the kits WILL NOT work with our units.

These are the steps:
1. Plug the valet button and led light wires into their respective color coded ports on the brain unit.
2. Turn ignition key to on position.
3. Press and hold the valet button for 3 seconds and let go.
4. Within 3 seconds of letting go valet button press each remote lock button once. Do each remote separately within 3 seconds.
5. Wait 5 seconds.
6. Turn ignition off.
7. Wait 10 seconds then test each remote.

Park/turn signals flash once for lock and twice for unlock.

Good luck:)

If any of you are still experiencing challenges, call their tech support and make sure you ask for the guy who knows BMW's. When I called, they forwarded me to the BMW expert and he asked right away what the purchase date was. When I told him the exact date, he knew I had the wrong troubleshooting instructions and gave me the right instructions over the phone. Hope this helps also.
