This Saturday at Echo Lounge, my favorite band of all time is playing. The Fall. The lineup is different (they formed in 1977 and are true Manchester punk with a leering, lecherous bend) and it's not music that everyone would enjoy. In fact, I can't guarantee anything, last time they played in Atlanta the lead singer, Mark E. Smith pretty much stood motionless, singing while looking at his watch. :stickoutt

Modest Mouse plays Atlanta at the Variety July 22nd, and at the 40 Watt Jult 23rd in Athens. I'm going to the Athens show for sure, might go to both.

Arrrgghhhh - my friends really want me to go to Modest Mouse with them. I really want to go to a concert since it's been a while(a long while :(), but I just can't get over their music. Sounds like whiny bitching music to me.

I always miss TOOL and Crystal Method when they come through Atlanta - but not next time!

Tool kicks ass!

I wish I'd gone to see them at The Tabernacle. :(

It is.

I like it. They seem to be pretty funny about it and I think the music is pretty catchy and interesting.

i was thinking about going to modest mouse but then i thought about the fact that, wtf do you do at a type of concert like that? sit around and cry????

i guess i'm just used to going to shows with mosh pits and the such, i'd be bored just standing there.

What bands have mosh pits?

When I used to go see DDT, Neon Christ, Circle Jerks, Husker Du, Butthole Surfers, et al, there was moshing, but what bands inspire this toady? Not being a snot, just curious.

Jimmy, you should go see the Fall. Can't guarantee moshing, though their sound has gone from leering punk to a kind of darkish euro dance, but it should be interesting regardless. They are an important band.

Butthole Surfers rock! Definitely one of those "first bands" I liked getting into music(as if you didn't already feel old count... muhahahah!).

If you want to see some moshing, go to a Pantera show. Now THAT my friends is entertaining. Worth the price of a ticket just to see the people that show up.

I saw Cinerama (also a UK band) a few weeks ago and it was the best show I have seen in years. Check them out if they play in your area. David Gedge (lead vocalist, guitarist) is simply an amazing songwriter, musician. He was formerly the head of the now defunct Wedding Present. Whiny love song type lyrics, very introspective and brilliantly written.

hmm, just about everyband hahaha.... i think the problem is all the poseur punks want to prove that they are the 'punkiest' (makes sense eh?)

i mean, i've seen catch 22 who are a punk ska band (not even like hXc punk or anything) 3 times.... the first time the place was nearly empty (approx 2 years ago i guess) a little bit of swaying and lots of room to skank (i'd much rather skank to some ska music then get in a mosh pit)...

then the next time it was a lil more crowded and a lil rowdier... then the last time it was absolutely nuts, the place was packed and people were going crazy....

i think the worst mosh pit i ever experienced was at flogging molly. i was not expecting it at all and some how i managed to stand right in the middle of where i a massive circle pit started.... i proceeded to scramble my way out not without managing to loose my shoe, see some one through it, then see someone holding it up, i grabbed it put it on, and some time during this whole session i managed to get a bloody nose

:dunno

people are crazy these days.... i'm not into the hardcore moshing, i'd much rather just stay where people are swaying around with a lil pushing and shoving involved

i'll see if i can find some of 'the fall' s stuff and d/l it.

I was at a John Tesh concert one time where a mosh pit broke out. Well, no I wasn't... but you can imagine what it'd be like if I was.

After ticketmaster screwed me and some friends out of tool tickets ("we don't have a record of that confirmation number") I'm starting to think I'll never get to see them. But at least I've got Phish tickets for the 26th, any of you guys gonna be there? Radiohead is coming to Hifibuys in October too, should be an awesome show.

count_schemula, Circle Jerks are playing in a week or two at the Masq. I might go down and try to relive my punkrock days.

Punknamedjimmy, When did you go see Flogging Molly I saw them about a year and a half ago with the Bouncing Souls. I haven't been to a show since :(

Monday nights, 10-11pm on WREK 91.1 is a show called "54-46."

The best selection of old school, two-tone, and third-wave wax around. Contests, free passes, and special guests on a regular basis along with your ska/rock steady/blue beat requests.

Not too much of a ska nut myself, but WREK is the best radio in the city. If you can't get the signal in Duluth, it's on the Internet as well.

I'll go check it out now...

EDIT - Not bad, but I'm more into ska-core instead of the ska they were playing.
