View Full Version : Turbo E46..YES, NO?
M3toKICKurASS 08-17-2001, 11:01 AM Hey. I have the E46 M3 and have a decision to make and thought someone might like to contribute their opinion. I am looking into a custom turbo(yes i found someone to do it for me) and the price is a little high(ok it's not little at all) but if you had the means to do it..would you? regaurdless? i can do some non turbo custom mods for a little less, hence my hesitiation to why not go ahead and do the whole turbo
I would wait till the car breaks in, but hellya go for it.
M3toKICKurASS 08-17-2001, 03:34 PM ray...the car is plenty broken in, it has 12k mi...don't ask me how....but what else can be done with a sweet ass car excpet drive it around

Ah... I'd like to see the turbo kit when you have to done for the new M3. I heard that it won't be easy to do... but I'd be very interested in seeing it and even getting a ride in it.
///MCubed 08-17-2001, 04:16 PM AA already has an E46 M3 that they are going to do the development work on. Sorry you missed out, but wait for results before you set out on that endeavour with someone who may not have the experience with Turbo BMW's as AA has.
M3toKICKurASS 08-17-2001, 10:34 PM I have already decided not to go with the turbo...it's too expensive for right now...but i am still doing some serious mods to the engine....and maybe a turbo later on....we'll see....my mods should put me well near 400 bhp...i'm PRAYING(keyword) that everything i want to do is done by NOPI....thanks for all the advice
///MCubed 08-17-2001, 11:03 PM Be very careful, the E46 M3 engine is very high compression. I have heard of many blwing their engines without a mishift or any other operator error. Just something to think about .

NOPI makes parts for BMWs? I called them like a month ago, and they said they had nothing for Bimmers...
What mods are you thinking of, specifically? Intake, exhaust, cams, headwork?

Yeah... Karl Hugh noted to me that they were throwing rods too... Because of the high-revving nature of the engine... Do you happen to know the stock compression ratio of the E46M3 engine?
Infoe330i 08-18-2001, 01:17 AM the sequential blow off valve and record onto a .wav so we can hear that baby! damn i love the way's turbo sound

10.5:1 or 11.5:1  ... can't remember now, too early in the morning and not enough sleep. If I remember the exact number, I'll post a correction to this.
M3toKICKurASS 08-18-2001, 11:52 AM NOPI doesn't make parts...i was saying i want everything inished for NOPI....and yeah i'm doing just mostly header and exhaust...reworking the fuel management and other high flow air systems...so i was told....however, i would like to hear more about the risks involved with moding the engine, tell me how it will effect the compression ratios
