View Full Version : wish me luck
BoostFed325 07-08-2003, 07:24 AM wednesday morning my car goes in to get the AA chip and injectors put in and the vortech fpr taken off.
but with the luck i have had with a blower something will go wrong :bawl
i have an ess setup but i had enough of there bs and just paid for AA to make me a chip and injectors
BoostFed325 07-08-2003, 07:24 AM oh the AA track pipe and AA cat back are going on as well.
paul e 07-08-2003, 08:45 AM Mat, being in Michigan, are you working with an AA dealer as the intermediary, or are you just having AA send the parts to a mechanic you like to use? Youre running the stock ESS system, and having AA cut you the software to go with a certain set of injectors, right? About 7 lbs boost, or did you bump that at all?
And what about the rrfpr....what was that like, and what were the problems you had with it? Why do you think it wasnt able, ultimately, to solve your enrichment needs.
BoostFed325 07-08-2003, 09:26 AM i dunno a whole lot about tuning.
but on a stock chip i think the fpr can only do soo much.
ess tried 4 times but failed on a chip for me.
my car check engines in high rpms at wot, cuts off at times.. and isnt even close to 285ish hp they claim. It acts different everytime i launch the car at 3500rpms. Sometimes it will bog and almost die and sometimes it will roast the tires......
And i just talked to AA for awhile threw emails and on the phone about my car and they wrote the chip/injectors from there.
i had them write it for 9psi, it came with 30# injectors.
BoostFed325 07-08-2003, 09:29 AM if the car runs ok.. i plan on geting aa's water injection and the Powerdyne upgrade with gears and oil cooling.
if not, ill probably just take it off the car because honestly i had more fun with just my tms chip then i do with how my car is now.
Alex330ci 07-08-2003, 09:35 AM Good luck!
bimmerpwr 07-08-2003, 03:43 PM Good luck, may the angel of dark side (FI world) be with you on this one!
BoostFed325 07-09-2003, 06:28 AM lol i need it :(
BoostFed325 07-10-2003, 12:31 AM it got pushed back a day.
but it goes in tommarow morning and i get it back in the afternoonish.
ill update you guys then.
i already feel letdown for some reason because of my luck with this blower
paul e 07-10-2003, 12:43 AM Mat, AA is doing the tuning for your ESS kit....AA is sending the chip to your mechanic to install..So is it an OBDI, or does your ecu have a socket for it...After the software gets installed, how are you going to verify the afr before you open it up too much ?
BoostFed325 07-10-2003, 01:26 AM obd1
i have the chip and injectors at my house.
BoostFed325 07-10-2003, 02:10 AM i dont have an af guage :(
but kent who is putting it on has some stuff to check the car with.
i plan on dynoing it if the car seens to run ok shortly afterwords
BoostFed325 07-10-2003, 11:45 AM well its dropped off...
out of my hands now :(
i hope it works soo i can finally have some FI fun :)
BoostFed325 07-10-2003, 08:11 PM just got back from going to the shop
aa track pipe and cat back is on.
fpr is off chip is in and injectors
but the car runs like ass, its geting maf errors.
its running really rich :( it starts sometimes but floods out
i tried another maf but that didnt work :(
gonna have to talk to aa in the morning. i think they wrote the chip for a 3.5maf and i have the normal 2.5 one. but i dunno
BMWguy206 07-10-2003, 08:13 PM The shop should've at least test drove the vehicle.
Try this, disconnect the air mass sensor and see how it idles and drive it around the block but dont boost it. See how it feels.
BoostFed325 07-10-2003, 08:18 PM shops closed now i can try it tommarow
BoostFed325 07-10-2003, 08:27 PM i told you guys something would work right.:bawl
NoSoup4U 07-11-2003, 08:18 AM boostfed -- just a part of the growing pains ... like Jon C. said, I would bitch at the shop ..
P.S. -- you said you took OFF the FPR?? Why???
BoostFed325 07-11-2003, 04:19 PM nosoup4u: i asked aa if i should take it off or not and said they too.
i talked to them today and they said the chip was for a 93.
i must if messed up in an email i sent them or something.
but owell thats an easy fix. chip is here monday for a 95 :)
BoostFed325 07-11-2003, 05:39 PM wow.. i just got home and talked to my dad.
i was amazed when he told me the stuff aa has been doing.
my dad called them in the morning and they were going to send a new chip over night and i would have it saturday.
and the owner of aa also called the shop and talked to them.
i could never see ess doing anything even close to this.
paul e 07-11-2003, 05:59 PM >>i could never see ess doing anything even close to this.<<
Exactly! Thats because AA really cares that their products are installed correctly, and thats because when they are, they usually work correctly :) So its in everybody's interest that they follow up with the installers to circumvent any bad feeling afterward, about questions like, 'Is it the Shop, or is it the Product'?!! 9 out of 10 times, its the Shop :D

Who was that, Karl? Fred?
BoostFed325 07-11-2003, 06:15 PM karl
soo the only problem is the chip was made for the wrong year probably my fault.
i still think its cool they took the time to talk to the shop. Told him to try a few things.
BoostFed325 07-12-2003, 01:06 PM gah i cant wait till monday or tuesday when i get the car back.
Speedfreak 07-12-2003, 04:16 PM I'm watching closely. If they can solve your problems they'll convince me to by an AA S/C.
BoostFed325 07-12-2003, 09:17 PM my feelings have changed since i made the thread.
i was soo fed up with FI and this S/C + ESS i was about to give up.
but after talking to AA the last few days and seeing how much they care and how much effort they are putting forward to get me going makes me actually think my car will run good :)
ill keep you updated speedfreak
Speedfreak 07-12-2003, 10:34 PM It's the kind of response you're getting from AA that makes me feel more comfortable about getting supercharged.
I was cautious about going that route after seeing people's cars messed up for months after putting on a supercharger.
I don't live too far from ERT but their lack of software didn't give me confidence to have it done. They are a good company but I don't think anyone meets the standards AA is setting.
Thanks, Speed
BoostFed325 07-13-2003, 01:24 AM after dealing with AA if i was to buy another blower or turbo, i wouldnt look anywhere but AA.
my ess experence was pure hell.
it was like pulling teeth just to get the right intake from them.
BoostFed325 07-14-2003, 08:26 PM my chip comes tommarow morning.
they even added on there staright pipes and cat back programmed into the chip which i orgionally didnt get.
i cant wait. i dunno if i will be able to sleep tonight
Speedfreak 07-16-2003, 10:13 PM any news?
BoostFed325 07-17-2003, 08:31 AM i think my car is cursed.http://www.kleeben.com//gifs/angelsad.gif
Speedfreak 07-17-2003, 09:18 AM Have you read the string "Intermittant miss/stall...." by MitchP?
I would go nuts if I had to live through what you guys are having.
Pat
MitchP even pulled the belt for the supercharger and still had the problem. It's hard to say for sure if its caused from his Dinan unit.
Speedfreak 07-17-2003, 10:14 AM It's just the added complexity and the amount of problems I read about when people have FI.
BoostFed325 07-17-2003, 10:16 AM i would still buy a blower from AA if i could
i think its just my car i dunno.
but its pretty Fed up right now
BoostFed325 07-17-2003, 11:52 AM i think i just want to bring the car to miami now
BoostFed325 07-17-2003, 01:49 PM i dunno what to really say right now.
i still see AA as top tuner and they have done alot for me
but my car is still not working right.
maybe its time for a trip to miami
paul e 07-17-2003, 03:20 PM >> dunno what to really say right now.

I dont know for sure, but now that youve tried a completely different ECU, and the problem is still there, I think you can rule out the problem as being ecu based.
BoostFed325 07-17-2003, 05:58 PM new news
and i actually have good news for once in my life with a blower
the car runs, and it runs very well.
the power is awesome, i am soo happy with it. I cant say enough how happy i am with it and AA.
I can actually feel my blower pull for once. Its like getting the charger all over again but this time it works. Im about to go out and drive it for the rest of the night :D
the help and extra effort AA has given me is incredible i cant thank them enough with emails and on the phone.
I expected them to kinda fade out once it didnt work like ESS did but i just heard from them more. Even my mechanic said he was pretty impressed by there service.
My dad and i sent them an email late last night and by the time i woke up today at noon AA was already in contact with my father and the mechanic. And the car was running.
**It was a small error on our side not AA's i want to make that clear for ya Speedfreak.
Speedfreak 07-17-2003, 07:25 PM I'm really happy for you.
I believe you're right AA is the top tuner.
I knew that. I just don't like the amount of trouble you can run into with a blower.
I'm going to look at two cars next week.
If I don't buy one I have to decide by Aug 7th if I want to get in on that group buy for the AA SC.
Keep us informed on how you're doing.
Pat
BoostFed325 07-17-2003, 07:36 PM that is a great price i saw that.
there kit is soo nice :)
and thankyou :) its soo nice to have my car run good. Its been a year and a half since it has  :redspot
jmprecisionauto 07-17-2003, 10:05 PM Matthew,
I am so glad to hear that your car is running... finally! The 330CI SC'd was running great in Vegas, which is still about 2000 feet above sea level.
Customers Quote
"I put the car in first gear and punched it from 1200 RPM's and the car literally went sideways on me"
He is having the car dyno tuned to see if it is software or the pulley that isn't the right size.
Any way, very very happy to hear that everything is working the way it is!
BoostFed325 07-17-2003, 10:35 PM thankyou.
its awesome to see you guys got the car running as well :)
BoostFed325 07-18-2003, 12:06 AM i cant say enough how happy i am :)
i cant wait to get AA's water injection on
BoostFed325 07-18-2003, 06:32 AM gah i have 18pts on my license and now my s/c is pulling like mad! this is bad i cant go anywhere without pulling threw a whole gear.
NoSoup4U 07-18-2003, 06:57 AM Congrats Boostfed -- but before you get water injection, maybe the V1 and Lidatek LE-30 laser diffuser (is that out yet? if not, LE-20) might be better investments with the amt. of pts. on your license
I think it's so weird how AA can tune ... even though they are not physically there and it's not their equipment ... says alot about their knowledge of bimmers/different setups, etc. Most places would never try to remote tune your car ...
BoostFed325 07-18-2003, 07:14 AM ya im very happy.
i have a pasport 5500 or something. but i could use an upgrade.
i really racked up the points :(
i had 12 points i was on restriction then i got cought drag racing lol.
but my license is almost back to normal now and the points will be dropping soo i gotta keep it cool.
ill just be going to the track every week.
oh and my clutch slips now soo i know i gained good power lol.
time for AA Clutch+Flywheel package as well
BoostFed325 07-18-2003, 07:17 AM im setting up a dyno run with some guys. deezbmw and a couple civic boys probably.
cant wait to see my #'s
paul e 07-18-2003, 03:18 PM >>**It was a small error on our side not AA's i want to make that clear for ya Speedfreak.<<
It might be enlightening to inform us what the problem was...
BoostFed325 07-22-2003, 08:33 AM im not really sure something minor i wasnt paying attation i just payed grab the keys and ran out the door :)
BoostFed325 07-22-2003, 08:34 AM m3 cams are next now with flywheel and clutch
BoostFed325 08-24-2003, 05:33 AM UPDATE: the car is running awesome...
i am now either beating most of my friends cars that i use to lose to or sticking with them..
Alex330ci 08-24-2003, 11:24 AM I feel a little ripped off that you never took the time to inform everyone what the issue turned out to be!!
BoostFed325 08-25-2003, 09:27 AM im sorry..
i have been away from the boards for a good month.
i never really found out exactually, i think it was the installer didnt reset the ecu when the first chip programed for the wrong model was installed ??
Speedfreak 08-26-2003, 03:45 PM Congrates!
I didn't think most cams worked well with a blower.
Is it because of the lift and duration of these cams that they work?
BoostFed325 08-26-2003, 04:25 PM im not sure... i dont have cams in..
im kinda scared to mess with the car now that it is running good i think im gonna pass on the cam idea now.
BoostFed325 08-30-2003, 05:58 PM i need a clutch really bad now :*(
