My beloved 1996 BMW 840CI Sport now has a lil rust on the corner of a wheel arch, short of cutting it out and welding new metal in place, is there something I can apply to kill the rust without affecting the paint?

Pic attached! notice that there are some sort of paint droplet marks above the rust, these are from a lousy paint job by the last owner...

Also would it be worth getting the car Waxoyl'd?

any help would be appreciated!

you might check the rest of the car as well. Check the battery locations,etc.. The rough looking paint above the rust is a coating from factory. Look at all wheel wells and you'll see what I mean. As far as killing the rust that's there....much more qualified folks up here than me to suggest anything.

POR15 is a coating that neutralizes rust and allows you to prep for paint (it is paintable). It should be available in most auto paint stores...

Search on the internet for more info.

I have used POR15 on previous cars and it works. Scrape the flaking rust off and just appy it on top of the rusted areas. If it is surface rust it won't go any further.

If it is more than surface rust you will need to cut it out and replace it with good metal. Rust is going to keep comming back unless you get rid of it completely.
