There is the BiffBurger shows on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as the meets on north Dale Mabry at the Checkers. Both of those are just general car meets, but lots of nice rides show up.

We should organize something. I wanted to do a meet over at the International Mall, but it didn't get too much of a response.

Any ideas? I'm in St. Pete, BTW.

Im in lakeland, but there are a few people around here who would ride up to Tampa for a meet. If you start hit me up and we'll be there.

Count me out if you want Ybor City. I wouldn't go there to throw the trash out of my car. Too crowded, surveillance cameras everywhere, profiling, and drunken fights. No thanks.

If you're dead set on some kind of party zone for a meet, try Harbor Island or Hyde Park. Or pick one of the malls. International Plaza has huge parking lots and quite a few clubs and restaurants. Its a lot classier than "Whybore" City.

OK, I can skip the ghetto as well. International Mall is a good idea.

Ybor City is pretty ghetto. My uncle lives in Hyde Park, it's decent... let me know where you want to do this.

I need to get a map of the mall layout so I can pinpoint where we can meet. There is a food court on one end with several excellent clubs, like the Blue Martini. If we snag the upper parking lot early enough we can probably fit everybody up there with room to spare, right next to the entrance to the good clubs and restaurants.

There is an SCCA autocross event at florida state fairgrounds off of I-4 on August 30 (practice) anf 31 (race) That would be a good place to meet/race There are usually a few BMW's (lately mine) racing....

When is the meet at the fairgrounds i would like to go.
i dont know if i would be able to compete but i sure would like to go.:az:

Saturday August 30 is practice....just like the race but the points dont count....the race is on Sunday....you need to get there before 8:30 or so if you want to register to race.....the whole deal is over at about 4:00 p.m.

Don't be hesitant to race...the whole thing is geared towards novices...My girlfriend raced her '98 eclipse and she was nervous as hell at first and then couldn't wait for the next run....I have only raced twice...first time in July....it was GREAT!! They even have an experienced driver that will sit as a passenger and give you tips...If you go to the sqturday practice you will get more runs in...I got nine runs in last time.


I saw some awesome cars there too..one dude last month had a tricked out m coupe with dual supertrapp exhaust...it sounded awesome.

Sorry - no way. If you haven't been to Clearwater Beach you don't know what you're getting into. The cops out there are complete bastards. You're just looking for trouble. They will circle us like buzzards over a thirsty man lost in the desert. They'll watch us to see who screws up first, and when nothing happens they'll pull out window tint grading meters and tire tread depth gauges to find people who are non-compliant. If that fails they'll figure out something to harass us. They also have a no-cruising law IIRC. Figure on 20 people showing up for the meet, and 40 cops checking plates and licenses. Forget it.
Besides, the traffic out there is just plain hell. Its also far from the interstate.


I say we stick with the mall plan. The lot there is wide open with plenty of food choices and little to no cop harassment.

Well, at least the home page has a list of amenities we can use. Good restaurants and clubs. I recommend the sushi buffet at Todai or the pizzas at California Pizza Kitchen, and later on we could hit the Blue Martini.

I'm thinking we could either do an A.M. meet, followed by a cruise, then go back to the mall for whatever we want to do.

If not, then just a late afternoon meet, show off the cars, then go in the mall to one of the clubs.

Probably 11am for a morning meet, 4 to 5 pm for afternoon?

Chuck - your idea is good, but I think it would be cool to have a big showing at the Sept. 20-21 Auto-X. I went to the Aug. 30-31 event and it was great. I would like to see more BMW representation though - as far as BMWs that entered the competition, there were only 4 on Sunday. Let's get like 15 or 20 BMWs and give the other marques some competition :) I will be there for the entire weekend (Friday the 19th, Sat. and Sunday the 21st).

I wish I could go.. Sept 20th is the biggest gun show in Florida, over in Lakeland. I could possibly make the 21st, but not to compete. I've never done an autocross, and I don't relish the thought of embarassing our marque. I haven't even done my first driving school yet. I was planning on taking Christina to the January school at Sebring.

The organization is pretty friendly to newcomers. The event I went to most recently was only my 3rd. I actually think an auto-x is good preparation for a DE. DEs are generally higher speed events, so getting some low-speed cornering training never hurts.

Considering the Tampa meet is not on the weekend of any scheduled races, I may be able to come. However, Chin Motorsports has a DE at Roebling on that date. If I go to that, I won't be able to attend, but at this point it looks like I won't have my car prepped in time anyway.

Ok guys, so the 27th of September it is at the International Mall!!!. I know about 5 to 6 BMWs that can come with me. We just need to set up a time, so that we can go and post this on different forums.

Let's get this rolling. Last time we had a Tampa BMW was around April and we had a good show up and we did some nice cruises through the 3 bridges and ended up in Clearwater Beach around 1:00am.

I'm moving right now, so I'm kind of between web connections. Still hooked up at my old place, won't have it at the new location till Tuesday. So my updates on this are going to be sparse until then.

Who here volunteers to spread this to the other boards? We need some people to get to Roadfly, DTM, M3Forums, E46fanatics, etc. I'd do at least one board, but I'm completely without time for the next couple of days. Also, I think this shouldn't just be confined to M's. I don't think anyone here would keep anyone with a Z8 or someone like Simeon and his awesome 740 from showing up, so lets tell everyone who owns a BMW to show up. I think having 50 or 60 Bayerische warriors in the lot looks a lot more impressive than a dozen M's. We can still organize by series if it gets crowded.

As far as time... I'd say either an 11am meet, with lunch and a cruise that starts and ends at the mall, or a 4pm meet that just stays there till whenever. The advantage of the early meet is that we can plan a route before it gets really hot out, spend the hot part of the day on the open road, then meet back for cold ones in the early evening. Of course, a late meet with no cruise skips the logistical nightmare that can come from trying to get 50 plus cars in order.

I definitely had a good time...althought I dipped after the bridge runs. How was later that night? I'd guess there were between 15-20 cars there through the afternoon, it was nice to meet you guys. Greg, you drive that coupe like a maniac! But, next time get off at the 4th St. exit......lol.

Uh.... good thing we didn't take the 4th Street exit. Christina did, and she said the cops had a radar trap out there. Given the, uh, extreme urgency we all were feeling, that could have been disastrous.

I dropped out after the Ulmerton u-turn and went home. We had a dinner date with friends for Bern's and I didn't want to miss out.

It was a great gathering and I think with a bit better coordination we could have a hella big turnout next time. I was pretty happy with the 25 cars that were there.

If the notices that I and others had posted on a certain other board had not been repeatedly deleted (lets not discuss this here for obvious reasons), we probably could have tripled the turnout. The only post that survived was on their E31 board and two 850ci's showed up.

Also, the times of forums deleting our posts are about to come to an end. I've got the forum software in place and the portal front end should be up and live by tomorrow. What is M&M?

There are definitely shows every week. Thursdays and Fridays at Biff's in St. Pete, Fridays and Saturdays at Checker's on North Dale Mabry Highway. Lots of iron turns out for those meets. Mostly very custom and/or classic American rides, but some imports show up. The Checker's show is especially hot.

yeah, i saw that one. i was hoping we could get one in Tampa, or maybe a bunch of the Tampa heads could drive to Orlando for this?

never been to a meet yet but would love to go to one, im in clearwater and am down for whatever.

2 hours max to gainseville from tampa and you can make it to an autocross this weekend. check this thread for more info. satuday is practice, sunday is a points even. even if you're not in to win the division title, always tons of fun!
