Looking for someone in the New England area who will do an Auto To Manual Conversion. car is a 1992 325is. If anyone does this, or knows of someone please let me know. Also a Ball park figure on a price would be great. Parts purchased by me, or through the installer... doesn't matter to me. Thanks everyone.

Something like that will cost around $600-800 in parts, $600 in labor. Better to sell the car and get a manual, if at all possible.

are you sre it's a 1994? or a 328?

Prices differ alittle between each year (ODBI/ ODBII)

I do yours when I am done mine!

Whoops, typo. sorry I means to say it's a 325Is. 1992. Yeah I could sell it but I love the car, and I dont want to sell it. With the work done to it, it would cost more to sell it and get a 5 speed and then do all the same work. You know what I mean?

I have a complete 1994 convertible 5 speed that i was going to take and match to my car but if I can sell it and get all of the correct 328 stuff it might work well for both of us.

I dont follow? You want to make your car a 5 speed? But youd rather sell the stuff you have to get the correct 328 manual parts?

Starting in 96, the E36 received a different manual transmission than the 1992-95 cars.

1992-1995 325i: Getrag 250

1996-1999 328i/s, ic, M3: ZF 320

The gearing is nearly the same, but the ZF is generally known to be able to take more power. It has a larger diameter flex disc (96mm vs 78mm) and was paired with a larger flywheel (240mm vs 228mm). In ordinary, everyday driving, this makes no difference.

Since he has the parts from a 94 325i, that means that he has the parts that originally came in the manual version of your car.

I see. I didn't know they changed Transmissions. In any case, my plans for the vehicle don't include anything requiring a beefier transmission. And if it were the case, I'd just swap in a 6 speed. So that seems like a good deal then, since we'll both walk away with what we need/want.

What trans is in 92-95 e36's besides the 325? Ie, is the 95 m3 trans the getrag 250 or a different getrag?

The 95 M3 trans is a ZF 310, which is very similar to the later ZF 320. I'm fairly certain it's a drop-in replacement for a ZF 320, as the output flange is the same diameter, slave cylinder should be the same, input shaft is the same length, bellhousing is the same pattern, etc.
