C'mon guys, I am trying to get a nice run together cruising all around the beautiful Mountains of Vermont. Some have expressed interest over on M5board.com and I am sure you would all lovee to come too! :redspot

It should be an awesome time.

Here is the plan:

Meet "southerners"- 9:30 AM -Quechee Gorge Visitor Ctr
6054 Woodstock Rd, White River Jct, VT

breakfast

Head up I-89 all the way up to Waterbury to meet "northerners" - 12:00 PM
exit 10, Waterbury, VT 05676

cruise down 100 to 125 (great roads)

Lunch (plenty of good restaurants around, to be determined where)

drive 125 to 116

116 to 17 hang out at 17 rip the gap take pics

cruise up to Burlington, 116

End at...
Hooters
1705 Williston Rd, South Burlington, VT

Not set in stone at all, and I will get a mapquest route posted up shortly. Bear with me!

This may also turn into a 2 day weekend event, if you are all up to it! There are a few awesome hotels around, it would be cool to stay over at the Stowe Spruce peak hotel, or Killington is great also. The next day we could cruise all the way around Southern VT, Killington ect...

So this thread is meant to see how many people we have interested, and to see WHEN we should have it.

Here are the proposed dates:
NEXT weekend - Saturday October 25
Weekend after - Saturday November 1

*if 2 day event, it will be Saturday and Sunday

I'm interested. Been wanting to come up to that area to play some golf in the fall...this could be an excuse to grab the lady friend, find a B&B and make a good weekend.

most of the northern part of NH and VT will be past peak by then... I'm in Exeter and we are just at the end of PEAK... 495 seems to be peak right now...

for leaves I would almost say October 25 would be good to hit western MA or CT...

Just my .02

this is pretty accurate but almost a week behind I think...

but this is the VERMONT run thread, not the MA or CT run thread :confused

Okay, I made a rough little route map of whats planned:

Edit: pissin me off bimmerforums wont let me post the link to my map pic because I "don't have ability to post links yet" So damn annoying...

Understood, but the thread is "Fall Foliage Tour Of Vermont"

Wasn't sure what was more important here, the Foliage or Vermont... If it is the Foliage then northern Vermont is likely not the best place to head... Perhaps SOUTHERN VT i.e. brattleboro to bennington and then down 91 to western MA... Along rte 7 (or is it 9) can't remember.... Heading towards albany though...

Well, its not like the leaves are going to be gone foliage will still be abundant. Sure maybe not peak, and I wish I got on this earlier so we could be in peak... But I guess we gotta make do with what we got.
I am not as familiar with the southern VT roads, and I know there are some world class roads planned here already, plus a bunch over at M5board already are expecting this route... so I guess we gotta sacrifice some foliage if your all cool with that.

I think it is better to wait until the first weekend of November to do the run, it seems that would work for most people. So either saturday or sunday, your choice.

Heres who we got going so far, their replies sounded pretty sure they were going. A lot of them are from M5board.

me - E39 M5
ridge_11 - E39 528
M5 deamon - E39 M5
TopasBlau46 - E46
KUSA - E36

And these next people showed interest, but I guess are "maybes"

DucatiBMW - E92 M3
andrewsherman - E60 M5
unfoundhorsepower - E60 M5
ESMcBlurM3 - E36 M3
JNFIV - E46
BealeAss - E36 M3
NHskibum - E30

So we got some potential here. Lets make it happen!

Howard! Don't try to steal our VT fuN! j/k You should come up here for the ride though. That way you can see where I live and be all ready to make a second trip in the winter for some skiing.

Sundays great, where and when would we be meeting?

vtmless
10-21-2008, 09:19 PM
well everyone intersted we will meet at staples plaza at 8:00 OR and head down to quechee to be there for 9:30, then heading back north and meeting in waterbury at 12 and meet anyone coming from the north or late risers from local :lol(vanilla gorilla):lol.
so anyone who is definitely coming should also pm or email me or connor (firebird400) with a phone number so we dont end up leaving without you (and your caravan lol) so we can be in touch!!! i cant tell you guys enough how great of a stretch of roads this is, but dont take my word for it do a google on "app gap" and see what everyone else says. i will be taking vids and pics for anyone who wants them (who doesnt)
there are some great sweepers some incredible tight corners including the picnic table corner which is a off camber hairpin 180 that is known for eating sport bikes alive there is so much action at this corner that some people put a picnic table in the center of it to watch the people come through it. it is not possible to take this corner at over 30 mph as this makes it a perfect photo opportunity this is where i normally set up.
on the opposite side of the mountain is mad river glen and there is another 180 but it is a sweeper and in the center is a giant parking lot for plenty of spectator space. again i stress how much fun i promise everyone involved in this event will have.
(note: for those who choose to be involved, i will be buying dinner for the person who has the most impressive (safe) drift of the day)

I don't know about the 1st one, couldn't tell too much. The second is clearly coming up from the Bristol side. I'd love to see the tighter turns coming up from the eastern side (Waitsfield), because that's the way I've run it countless times on my bike. Some of those turns are posted at 15mph, and 25 is a challenge. ;)

BTW, you folks making this run had best get your snow tires on for it. They're expecting 3" to 4" of it. No foilage to see by then, mostly gone already.

Vanilla Gorilla

If its snowing this late riser is not rising... I won't have snows until November.

PS: The mount Philo hillclimb is this weekend. Whos down?

vtmless
10-22-2008, 05:32 PM
well the hill climb is a definite, the run is not till the 2nd of nov. so technically you should have the snows.
just for clarification since we have had so much "controversy" over the "foliage" issue this started as a leaf peep tour but as everyone has pointed out its getting very late in the season to call it that so to put all the arguments and controversy to bed. this a fall POST FOLIAGE gap run through VT everyone is invited. as long as you have roundels or kidney grills we dont discriminate.:buttrock
