I am looking into getting new brakes all around. I think the stock brakes are good but i would like an improvement. I am definitely going to get brembo rotors but what do you all think are good calipers and or pads. The full brembo package is quite expensive! Any thoughts or experiences with certain products?

Owners seem to get Brembo rotors to warp more often then replacement Zimmerman rotors.

Upgrade calipers include either:
Later car Euro CSi brakes ($$$$$) Front and Rear
Later car brembo caliper Front ($$)
Euro spec E32 750iL 4 pot brakes Front

Brembo offers a upgraded Front which is about as pricey as a Euro CSi Front kit, but not as effective

Definitely switch to SS brake lines. (Phoenix motorsport)

Understand however, that there is no improvement in stopping power-it's pretty much a bling thing (and yes, I switched mine to the 4-pot calipers from the later models, so I appreciate the look of a bigger brake as much as the next :))
On a race vehicle where fade is consideration, that would be a different story. How can you tell? Slam on the brakes-what gives way first? The brakes or the tires? Bigger/different brakes aren't going to change that-

True the best way to improve absolute braking power (stopping distance) is to really improve tires.

As for pedal feel, the only thing I can really think of is SS lines.

I would like to improve the brakes but i will say that looks matter as well the size of the brakes currently are fine but I would like to change the calipers more so for cosmetics. I have zimmerman rotors on my porsche and I love them. Where might I be able to find these rotors for the eight? I forgot to mention it but I had already planned to get ss brake lines from wuffers' site(phoenix motorsports). Thanks for the input.

This may be a stupid question but I will go ahead and ask it.

Can you put the Brembo 4 pots from a 840 on a 850? If so do you need to change the rear calipers in order to balance the system out?

I have the Front 4 pots calipers for the CSi but have not put them on cause in order to balance out the braking system again I need the rear CSi calipers also and the floating front rotors for the CSi are a ridiculous amount of money IMO.

Yes, You can bolt them direcly on, Will work with your existing set up. I also have the CSi rears, They make the car stop very leveled, The 4 pot Brembos are more than enough and look great too, The Csi fronts are very nice but not the best you can do for that amount of money! You want need that much brake anyway on the streets. Bottom line for street driving, Stock is wonderful, Everything else is for looks.

SS lines and quality brake pads are enough. Anything else is for the looks - which I admit is important to me as well.

Zimmermann does rotors for the E31 as well.

Check out this place:

http://www.importrp.com/home.php?cat=38

it's where I ordered my zimmerman rotors and goodridge brakelines... pretty decent prices. if you do decide to go the brembo route... make sure you put "BIMMERFORUMS DISCOUNT" in the comment section upon check out. they are running a GB here in that forum. (unsolicited) the brakelines are on back order, so i'd suggest to go to wuffer for those. (unsolicited)

wuffer and this store are pretty close to each other just on different sides of the border!

I would recommend Zimmerman. I have one myself and I dont know what the SS lines are, but I have braided ones. The zimmermans also look badass.

"wuffer and this important store are pretty close to each other just on different sides of the border!"
Me and my store are on the same (north) side of the border but I ship from the south side of the border weekly. Border Guards and I are are (almost) on a first name basis. 8-)

So, looking at the rotors for the 850 I can find an endless amount of Zimmermann, but pre 96 I can't seem to find crossdrilled that fit an 840? I don't know much about the difference in rotor size from 850 to 840, would appreciate some help :).

You can find a lot of useful info right here when it comes to original BMW parts:
http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/

One of them is, that ALL E31 seem to share the same front rotors (http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/34116756087/) (haven't checked on the rears). Go to the catalog, identify the part you're looking for and then click on the part number. It will list you ALL other BMW models using this part# which I find extremely helpful (especially when looking for some used parts).

Cheers

Front and rear rotors are all interchangeable with standard oem calibers.
