The whole point for me, behind purchasing a winter beater, is having something I can sell for profit after the winter is over. I can't afford to keep two cars on the road so if I get this, I can hopefully revive it a bit, and sell it in the spring (or part it out).

I'm looking at the car on Sunday. I will report back to you guys.

Not much to a profit to be made after you fix all the rust. Definitely part it out. That's where the money is. Good luck!

Depending on how much rust it might not be that bad. If the body is rusted done even bother buying it for a track rat. If it is just the paint, which is probabaly not the case, it may be worth it to buy. Looks like it just needs a new front bumper and driver door. Then it wouldnt look too bad.

I wouldn't buy any car unless I had the title in hand. For all you know, he stole that shitbox (after it sat on the bottom of the ocean of course). In MA registration and insurance go hand in hand. Can't get one without the other.

He hasnt changed vanos unit or timing chain ever, wtf 212k :eek:, its rattling like crazy, when the mechanic told him to replace it, he said something like hell no, I'm not wasting money on that. The transmision makes a knocking sound when you realease the clutch to throw it in gear. Underneath the car, everything is rusted and its the same deal with the body which you've already seen in pics. The car doesnt seem to be as fast as it should be, makes me wonder how it would do on a compression test. He said hes never replaced any bushings and hes been the owner since 97'. The cars in rough shape overall, theres nothing "good" about the car. Hope i helped, I might still be considering just buying it and parting out, we'll see. These are just some of the things that really stood out for me, I only saw it for 10 minutes and it was dark.

I thought BMW used a life time timing chain? I don't think my M30 is supposed to be changed.

It is a lifetime chain. However when it start to rattle a lot its time to replace it. It isnt like the timing belt where you need to change it every 70k or so. The biggest issue with the car is the rust. Rust is always the worst possible thing for a car, it even makes it hard to part out as most of the bolts will just snap off or not come out at all. Taking that car apart would be a nightmare. If I was going to part it out, I would strip soak the entire underside in oil for a good week and then try working on it :rofl

I know it seems horrible. But I bet it can be revided to a "decent" condition. Rust reapir isn't realy that hard... or difficult. Slap a fake m3 front bumper on it, give it some paint, and check out the tranny, and replace the tensioner. I bet it can be revived more thn you think. People just get scared away too easily. THis could easily make someone a good amount of money.

No one wants to be the guy who messed up an M3. (Like the previous owner). But if you buy it so cheap, and it's considered already dead.. who cares what you do to it. It can only get better. And there is little fear of screwing up a highly sought after car. Get what I'm saying?

Yes it is a good point. Also, people who don't know anything will be scared to buy a messed up M3 cause it needs a lot of $$$ to get back to nice shape.

its worth buying if you can get it under 2k rebuild the motor and track ratzzz is possible. the miles aren't HORRIBLE as long as you do a rediculous tune up and go from there.

Why waste your time and money rebuilding a car that will always be a rust bucket unless you get it on a roti and sand blast the whole thing, ie; not going to happen. Think bushings, wheel bearings, control arms, rotors/pads, new calipers or at least rebuilt, new engine seals, cam chain tensioners, shocks, clutch and flywheel.. you would be 4k into that car in parts before you even thought about bodywork.
