That's the big IF,though. johnnybmw1 10-15-2008, 05:24 PM I would drive this sucker, then when it dies, PART IT OUT :) E39Chris525i 10-15-2008, 05:25 PM http://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/cto/879710336.html not mine, don't even know if its real. good deal anyways E30 drivers should be all over this. I can't afford to keep two cars on the road so if I get this, I can hopefully revive it a bit, and sell it in the spring (or part it out). I'm looking at the car on Sunday. If the body is rusted done even bother buying it for a track rat. If it is just the paint, which is probabaly not the case, it may be worth it to buy. Looks like it just needs a new front bumper and driver door. Then it wouldnt look too bad. I'm prepared to let the buyer drive on my plate until I obtain the duplciate title as long as the buyer obtains the liability insurance on the car. TopasBlau46 10-19-2008, 09:38 PM I just looked at it and it truly is a rat box as in comparable to your car ... or? :lol srsly.. 03Bblack 10-19-2008, 09:40 PM In! Interested to hear about this bucket adstock 10-19-2008, 10:07 PM already sent this to johnnybmw1 He hasnt changed vanos unit or timing chain ever, wtf 212k , its rattling like crazy, when the mechanic told him to replace it, he said something like hell no, I'm not wasting money on that. The transmision makes a knocking sound when you realease the clutch to throw it in gear. Underneath the car, everything is rusted and its the same deal with the body which you've already seen in pics. The car doesnt seem to be as fast as it should be, makes me wonder how it would do on a compression test. He said hes never replaced any bushings and hes been the owner since 97'. The cars in rough shape overall, theres nothing "good" about the car. Hope i helped, I might still be considering just buying it and parting out, we'll see. These are just some of the things that really stood out for me, I only saw it for 10 minutes and it was dark. I don't think my M30 is supposed to be changed. savage217 10-19-2008, 11:21 PM It is a lifetime chain. However when it start to rattle a lot its time to replace it. It isnt like the timing belt where you need to change it every 70k or so. The biggest issue with the car is the rust. Rust is always the worst possible thing for a car, it even makes it hard to part out as most of the bolts will just snap off or not come out at all. Taking that car apart would be a nightmare. If I was going to part it out, I would strip soak the entire underside in oil for a good week and then try working on it :rofl JBpka06 10-20-2008, 12:26 AM what street was is on in Hopkinton? adstock 10-20-2008, 07:22 AM what street was is on in Hopkinton? idk, we met at the Dunkin Donuts by EMC johnnybmw1 10-20-2008, 11:57 AM is it fishy around here? No, you replace the chain tensioner.;) FredK 10-20-2008, 01:45 PM Of course it's a lifetime chain. When it snaps, your engine's lifetime is over? :dunno savage217 10-20-2008, 05:47 PM No, you replace the chain tensioner.;) Usually people replace the whole unit;) TopasBlau46 10-20-2008, 08:04 PM Of course it's a lifetime chain. My sc300 is wayyyy faster then my 318is. WHOA! 55fanatic 11-10-2008, 04:29 PM Those can be rocketships pretty easily... lots of owners do the 2JZ swap... NHskibm 11-10-2008, 04:32 PM $500 24 hours of lemons... :) 55fanatic 11-10-2008, 04:37 PM lol not that again... good thing we didnt end up doing that, Im going to be using that hunk for my winter beater, lol... come spring I might part it out and buy another E30 or maybe a 5series in better shape... and keep the M as a track toy eastonball 11-10-2008, 07:13 PM I know it seems horrible. But I bet it can be revided to a "decent" condition. Rust reapir isn't realy that hard... or difficult. Slap a fake m3 front bumper on it, give it some paint, and check out the tranny, and replace the tensioner. I bet it can be revived more thn you think. People just get scared away too easily. THis could easily make someone a good amount of money. johnnybmw1 11-10-2008, 08:23 PM so eastonball, you bought it? eastonball 11-10-2008, 09:26 PM No. I didn't. If I had the money to blow I would def buy it for a winter project. Cars like this are good, because the M3 is one of those cars people are "afraid" to screw up. No one wants to be the guy who messed up an M3. (Like the previous owner). But if you buy it so cheap, and it's considered already dead.. who cares what you do to it. It can only get better. And there is little fear of screwing up a highly sought after car. Get what I'm saying? GarrettSR5 11-10-2008, 09:38 PM No. I didn't. Also, people who don't know anything will be scared to buy a messed up M3 cause it needs a lot of $$$ to get back to nice shape. peter91118 11-12-2008, 07:06 PM so did anybody buy this? i want some of the parts..... E36RJBMW 11-13-2008, 12:45 AM its worth buying if you can get it under 2k rebuild the motor and track ratzzz is possible. the miles aren't HORRIBLE as long as you do a rediculous tune up and go from there. catalyst. 11-17-2008, 05:16 AM not worth it cause the rust. Why waste your time and money rebuilding a car that will always be a rust bucket unless you get it on a roti and sand blast the whole thing, ie; not going to happen. Think bushings, wheel bearings, control arms, rotors/pads, new calipers or at least rebuilt, new engine seals, cam chain tensioners, shocks, clutch and flywheel.. you would be 4k into that car in parts before you even thought about bodywork. |
