Hi all,

I constantly get the "check eng oil lev" warning a few minutes after I start the car in the morning and anytime I turn the engine off. I know the levels are correct. I also get this warning even after an oil change.

I've been told several times that it is the sensor, however, when I first bought the car in 2007, it was one of the parts I replaced due to the same warning. Does the sensor just get dirty all the time and nothing can be done about this?

Thanks!

try the sensor - did you get a BMW OEM Sensor or buy an aftermarket?
If you still have this problem, check to see if the wiring is brittle and/or cracked at the sensor itself.
If all seems okay, I would start looking at the oil pump. You DON'T want that to fail - it will cost you a head or 2.

Was the screen changed when the oil level sensor was? The screen that creates the stilling well (calm spot) where the sensor is will block the flow of oil in and out when it is really dirty and the sensor will then read the level wrong at times.

Thanks for the responses!

My mechanic purchased an OEM sensor from one of the local stealerships. Where is the wiring? How much is an oil pump?

Looking back at the paperwork, I was never charged for the sensor so I doubt the screen was replaced. How much is the screen?

A few questions... how often do you all check your oil levels? Is the best time to do it in the morning before taking off for work and/or before starting up the car?
