I was wondering if as of today, HIR (HIR-1 in particular) are still only availabe as 90xx bulbs with no option really for H1 users.

I ask as I want to replace my FTP high with a HFR, and it uses a H1 bulb.

I also, wanted to replace the high in my E38, but it uses a H7 bulb.

Am I completely SOL for either application?

Fraid so; the HIRs were only ever made in 9005 and 9006 equivalent types. It's very unlikely that any other kinds will ever be developed, since incandescent lighting in general is on the way out. So is HID, probably; the future is LEDs, they say.
