I bought the lucas oils synthetic stabilizer, do you guys think this will help reduce the oil consumption? TxGR8White 10-13-2008, 03:27 PM only a leakdown test can tell you for sure. tread72 10-13-2008, 03:33 PM TX, i totally agree with you on the leak down test, but I dont have time to get it done until spring, just for now, i want to know if there is any danger in using the full synthetic oil stablizer for now, i have never used it, but am willing to give it a shot one time to test it out. Wuffer 10-13-2008, 05:05 PM Well, if you already bought it, and it is for use in an engine that has synthetic oil in it and its down a quart, and the label on the product says its ok to use it - then try it. Dont think we need a poll on whether you should use it or not. Its your car Bob. 8-) dedarkone 10-13-2008, 05:10 PM It will not make a difference i tried it. my car is in the shop as we speak i hope to get it back today. it needed the valve cover gaskets, and just about every hose was dry rotted. bimmerrder 10-13-2008, 05:42 PM i use it in my 88 chevy pickup and it seems to help the 5 litre only has 145000km's on it and it uses around 1/2 quart in a 10000km oil change interval pretty darn good i think, anyways if i add the stabilizer is doesnt use any at all plus it seemd to raise the oil presure a tad. this was in mobil 1 10w30 synthetic. prit singh 10-21-2008, 04:59 PM That stuff is good but have the engine tested for leaks and oil consumption asap. Otherwise an engine rebuild or transplant will be a good idea. UZ4PLAY 10-21-2008, 10:11 PM Lucas has different types of additives. If its the silver bottle it works great if you have valve seals leak. If there's ring issues there's minimal difference. If there's exterior gasket leaks (oil pan, valve covers etc) it doesn't help. pnmva2006 04-09-2009, 02:30 PM Thanks for the info guys. I bought some today and was just about to pour, I noticed this stuff is like molasses. Last three comments were great, but Wuffer you should never post again. Wuffer 04-09-2009, 06:35 PM Oh really? Why is that? Something wrong with my opinion? Opinions are like arseholes - everyone has one. If you dont want opinions, dont ask for one. Just my opinion... 8-) You are pretty holier than thou for a newbie pnm. 1chiban 04-09-2009, 07:31 PM PNM, you may have just killed any future you have at being able to successfully utilize this forum. You need to watch the kind of bull$hit you type here, because this community is more like a family than anything. If you're going to make your first impression against one of the most valuable members of this forum the kind of garbage you just said, you should just leave and forget it. Just my .08 cents. tread72 04-09-2009, 09:56 PM Hey, he is only running on 6 cylinders guys, give him a break....lol I like that "6 cylinders"....lol :redspot :eyecrazy:buttrock:alright Just so you know wuffer is the Jedi master, you don't want to go there :nono carspainc.com 04-09-2009, 11:23 PM ... but Wuffer you should never post again. a guy with 7 post tell somebody like tom not to post here? don't make me laugh. cars don't come with things like lucas oil when they are new. additives like these will always cause other problems. if you have gasket problems you need to fix them. there is no pixie-dust-fix for that. all lucas oil does is lower the viscosity of your oil. and if you believe it does work, you're really goofy samsonevickis 04-09-2009, 11:45 PM I'm sorry why on earth is someone without an 8 even commenting? I hate that when I get my 3 I will have deal with that all the time. I love the 3, but the stigma is that all of them are douches, which is more or less correct... Btw Thanks Tom for all your help over the past months. TxGR8White 04-10-2009, 12:02 AM I have been searching for a video that was posted on the GM F-body site several years ago about the LUCAS Oil Stabilizer. They did a test with this "molasses" stuff and it caused nothing but problems. It seems that there is alot of "foaming" that happens when you run your engine at medium to high rpm's. It is just another "band-aid" for those folks that think there is a cheap way to "fix" things on these cars. It falls into the category of duct-tape and bailing wire. This is one of the reasons there are alot of "ragged-out" 8's out there - not enough decent and correct maintenance. Think about it: why would the oil in your car be "unstable" to the point where you need to stabilize it? Maybe if you go 10,000 miles or more between oil changes, it might just work for you.... |
