View Full Version : more horsepower?
ah1wcobra 10-13-2008, 10:18 AM what type of simple horsepower mods are being used to get a little more power without affecting daily driver qualities.my S500 will drop this 850I like a spider crawling on your hand.i know these arent race cars but it seems that there should be some untapped power in a v12.
carspainc.com 10-13-2008, 10:43 AM good way of fast gain is to.
replace all vaccuum line
replace the distributor new dizzy
new sparkplugs new airfilter (OEM)
check the oil and the diff fluid
check pressure on fuel rail
TxGR8White 10-13-2008, 10:43 AM Want more horsepower? Buy a used Z06!
The only "inexpensive" mod is a set of WOKKE chips (you will feel the difference), after that it is only money.

Best to the Point answer for V12 or V8 Power Increase Mod!
Definitely go with the WOKKE Chip. I have one in my 840!

carspainc.com 10-13-2008, 06:51 PM what i meant with mod is , get your car back to the horse power
it had when it was new. then you can start with all the other mods.
you can't feed a horse through it's a$$. start at the top.
once the car runs like it should, then you can get a chip and the muffler
and the cam shaft and what not.
boomer3 10-13-2008, 07:34 PM and just like all the guys on this forum warn.. do not use a wet filter/a K&N setup. Leave the intake stock.

both vacume lines on the fuel pulse dampers on the fuel rail were rotten and not transfering any vacume source at all, what a difference in the way it runs.there dosent seem to be many vacume lines on this engine.im going to try and smog it tomorrow, any other vacume that im not noticing?.the drivers side o2 sensor connector was contacting the exhaust and cooked it pretty good so ill try to clean that up and hopefully pass smog.

once the car runs like it should, then you can get a chip and the muffler
and the cam shaft and what not.im a pretty good wrench and enjoy a good challenge.although the car was stored for years im lucky cause everything i have checked is new, fuel filters, plugs, wires, distributor caps, air filters and a brand new remus exhaust.im a happy camper!.i dont want to make this car any more powerful than it was designed to be.i was initially disappointed in the performance /acceleration but after getting the vacume source back to the fuel dampers the car is dramatically different.ill focus on working the bugs out and im sure the performance is allready built in by BMW.another question, should these engines fire up cold and run smooth or do they need to get to op temp to smooth out?
TxGR8White 10-14-2008, 11:35 PM fire cold and smooth from the start
Wuffer 10-14-2008, 11:52 PM Unless the intake manifold gaskets are leaking....
tdotbimmer 10-14-2008, 11:57 PM Dont forget to put high octane gasoline only
TxGR8White 10-14-2008, 11:59 PM Dont forget to put high octane gasoline only
not necessary for the M70 motor - actually a waste of money
ah1wcobra 10-15-2008, 12:05 AM fire cold and smooth from the start
ill start looking till i find the issue, ill see if i can get a change in rpm with a shot of ether in the intake/valley area.this engine drops a couple cylinders until it warms up.all the injectors are functioning but who knows if they are dripping/leaking or have a good spray pattern.the gas is 15 months old,it had a full tank and i didnt have a place to just dump 24 gallons of rotten gas so i thought i would try to run it out.ill probably play some catch up for that stupid decision.
TxGR8White 10-15-2008, 12:15 AM injectors cleaned (ultrasonically) and pressure and flow tested goes a long way.
About $10-$12 per injector.
ah1wcobra 10-15-2008, 12:29 AM can i get to the hardware and simply check to see if they are loose on the intake manifold?or do i have to pull the electrical harness for the injectors?ive got a service manual for the 7 series cars that came with this the car.the previous owner said he got it cheap and the engines are the same.ill get the right pub soon.
Wuffer 10-15-2008, 12:31 AM Repair manual available here: www.wuffer.net (http://www.wuffer.net) on the Downloads page.
