View Full Version : CSI Mirrors
felixbobcat 10-11-2008, 01:40 PM Looking for a little technical advice. Do the CSI Mirrors use the same electronics inside (ie: motors, gears and cabeling) for memory that the standard CI mirrors use? In other words if I buy a set of non-memory CSI mirrors can I upgrade them with the electronics from inside of my CI stock mirrors?
rcrad6653 10-11-2008, 03:53 PM Yes. The memory drives are the same between a US 850ci and Euro 850csi.
Part# 67 13 8 364 184. Memory glass appears to be different however, between just heated and heated/memory.
wokke 10-12-2008, 05:23 AM check this link and when you click the part number you'll see where else the part has been used. The drive as such for example is quite universal (E31, E32, E34....).
The memory drive has been used in E31, E32 and E34

The part# mentioned by rcrad6653 is the memory drive repair kit.
rcrad6653 10-12-2008, 11:28 AM It's a bit ambiguous about what they mean by 'repair kit'. I took it to mean it was a replacement drive, and also the difference in the heat and heat-memory glass. I would think the functions would be independent of the mirror glass and it would mount the same regardless.

Tried the link but it sent me back to this thread!

I corrected it. I didn't use the "insert link" feature but just copied from the address line of my browser and pasted it into my post.
Seems not to work with this forum software.

felixbobcat 10-12-2008, 12:37 PM Wokke,
Thanks, Worked better that way. The reason I'm curious is because I found a used set on German Ebay that has the wires cut.
I want to put a set of CSI Mirrors on my '96 850 and so far it looks like a good deal. I'm pretty sure I can fix the wiring problem. But....
My source in Germany for bidding on these has fallen through and the seller has yet to respond to my email on weather he will ship them to me in the States.
So I may be posting for some help in buying them. If anyone reading this wants to help I will be happy to pay a reasonable commission for their time.

If he refuses to send to the US directly you can use my address and I ship from my place to the US - no issue at all.
Cheers

felixbobcat 10-12-2008, 02:41 PM Wokke,
Thanks once again. I will try one more time to contact the seller and see if they will be willing to do that.
Respectfully,
Bob
whale 11-08-2008, 07:51 PM There is a fellow selling left and right mirrors off of an 1999 M3 coupe that look identical to 850 CSI side view mirrors. They are used, but look in fair condition and asking $260 shipped for the pair. Anyone know if they will fit an 840?

No, only 8 series mirrors work on the 8.
pinned 11-09-2008, 01:49 PM Not wanting to jack the thread but has anyone ever put our 8 mirrors next to another models to see exactly what the differences are or are we speculating that they are one off because of part numbers?

Not sure what the exact differences would be... But like mentioned above, it has been confirmed years ago that the only mirrors that will fit onto an 8 are E31-specific CSi mirrors. Other platform mirrors may look like they'll fit, but they will not. If you want CSi mirrors, you're going to have to cough up the $$$ for 'em.
Cheers :)

I like your new signature :)

Koizumi,
Didn't really want to hear that, but thanks for the clarification. Thought I had found a bargain with the 1999 M3 mirror offerring. I guess I'll just have to cool it until something becomes available on Ebay or I stash away enough $$$ to buy new.
pinned 11-09-2008, 02:36 PM I am always suspect on "the only thing that works is 8 specific" unless someone (first party) has actually done it, or tried to do it. No offence to anyone but speculation is bad without cold hard fact. At some point I was told the same thing about the conversion parts for auto to stick shift when in fact the e34 pedal assembly is the same part(s). Again I dont want to offend anyone but has an 8 mirror been compared side by side to another model? If it is only a wiring difference its not an issue, I would be more concerned if it will actually bolt up to our door, or can be modified to fit.
TerryY 11-09-2008, 03:18 PM It has been tried before. The A Pillar angle is different between the two cars.
Modification has been tried and as far as I have heard in almost 6 years no one has been successful in getting the M3 base to look right.
I prefer the Dumbo mirrors myself because I can see more in them. So I have not tried myself.

Just so you know, the ones on ebay usually end up costing more than they do from Gault - no bargins to be had there!

Got ya, other than A post angle does everything else bolt up?
