OK got the springs out and im sending the old shocks and struts to Bilstein Friday.

Im kind of hesitant to sell these springs, Reason being is once they are sold i dont think any one will be able to get them anymore, Im still leaning towards Cloneing them if i could sell these to the 3 differnt people asking me for them i would.

BTW on the shocks I dont have a clue between Comfort and HeavyDuty valving.
any input?

Are these the stiff dinan springs? by the looks of the front coils, it looks like they've hit coil bind at least few times, definitely not a good sign...

If these are the heavy Dinan springs, they will be very rough riding!! Dinan made a few sets and most people took them off. Dinan people admitted that the heavy springs were way to stiff! If they are the softer of the two Dinan versions, they are OK, there is confirmed reports of spring breakage so be careful about the length of time the spring has been installed, may be an issue.

What you are seeing is the movement of the spring in the spring perch rubber, not a concern unless there is a nick or notch on the spring wire where the end of the spring has contacted the coil above or below it. That is where the spring will break if the surface is at all compromised. I have seen evidence on other Dinan spring of coil bind, it can and does happen!

The only way to tell if they are heavy or soft Dinan is to measure the spring wire diameter and that has to be done with a precision micrometer and be able to read at least to the 1/10th of a MM.

what about the missing blue coating along the length of the coils further down the spring? That is where it looks like they were rubbing against one another.

I agree Steffen, they have been binding, typically to what I have seen before, I just didn't look that closely, (not enough morning coffee!)

Personally, I have a hard time convincing myself of buying "used" springs, you just don't know what went on in their "previous life". I hear you on the coffee part! :)
