Looking for an E36 in the Rhode Island Area. I'll basically travel anywhere if it's worth the drive. Looking for a 5 speed coupe. Prefer amodel with a 6, but I'll take a 318 if its really nice. Basically looking for any e36. No rust buckets or shells. Looking for a driver. I dont have much, so let me see what you have for around $2800. Thanks.

First off, you won't find an E36 6 speed coupe, BMW never brought the E36 6 speed M3 over to the states, and if the M3 doesn't have it, the other E36s don't. They didn't bring the 6 speed into one of their 3 series until the 330 in the 2003 or 2004 IIRC, and the M3 had it starting in 2001.

318's are 4 cylinders, and are pretty weak in the power department, but you'll have an easier time finding a 318 for that price range than a 323, 325 or 328.

Keep your eye on autotrader.com, craigslist.com, and maybe even cars.com.

I think the OP ment a 6 cyl not a 6 speed. There are definitely tons out there. craigslist list too.

Your reading comprehension is really on point lately :P

I know of a black 325i 5spd for $1000 near me. The rear driver's wheelarch is rotted really badly, and it generally needs work, but I don't know specifics. Sounds like the guy would take offers to get rid of it, so depending on what it needs and how much you'd have to put into it, might be worth it. I know it's not a coupe, but I just found out about it yesterday from my old boss. Someone dropped it off at his shop, and he knew I was into Bimmers, so he told me about it.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. Also, perhaps I wasn't specific enough in my initial posting. I know they only made standards as a 5 speed. When I said I prefer a 6, I meant a 6 cylinder. I am also aware that a 318 is a 4 cylinder.... 1.8 to be exact. That is why I would like to stay away from them. Also, I never said I wanted an M3. Don't get me wrong, I'd love one. but in my price range it won't happen. Not with a drivetrain, interior and paint atleast. As for Craigslist, I've searched, and all the ones I find are high miles, like in the 180's. I'm not very familiar with BMW's. I know this is a lot by average car standards, but is that too much for a Bmw?

As a little back history, I've always been into the go fast kinda cars, like the more common things like Supras, Camaros and what not. I've decided to go with something a little more mature with a BMW. Now is a 4 door all that bad? In the past I've always not liked 4 door cars. But is it that bad for the Bmw's? Let me know. Any info you guys can give me on getting my first BMW would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and Also, are the 318's that bad? Am I choosing not to get one for the wrong reasons? I'm a fan of having the options like power everything. Did the 318 come with such things? Also are they really slow? I dont need a really fast car, but I also want to be fast enough to beat a cavalier. ha. Are the BMW automatics any good? Or are they crap?
