I am looking at a 8 series locally and i don't have and experience with them. i love the look of them and i think its a really sick car. im looking at a 1994 840ci with 144k miles. im clued in the price. but the main thing im concerned about is the maintenance/parts? how much more will it run with the basic maintenance ( oil, fluids, brakes, alignment ..etc) until i have to start replacing major parts( water pump, belts) parts in that category.
what should i look for when buying a 8 series?
il post up pictures later if the guy sells me the car. but any help would be appreciated.
its mostly stock besides drilled rotors put in at 112k miles, resurfaced at 125k. engine as some rust spots on it. throttle is a lil slow on response maybe the tranny and there's a little oil leak. clean title, no accidents (inspected by my mechanic)
He claims to changed the oil every 3k miles since the purchase. a/c doesn't work to well either, so far that all i am aware of.
anything else that someone can suggest to look at would be great.

Thanks!

If you're serious about it get a pre purchase inspection at a reputable shop. Ask if it had the nikasil/alusil swap. The cooling system is also something that should be checked. Check the electronics on the car because the 8 series has a lot of electronic equipment. Also suspension components, drive it on the highway see if it shimmy's at a range of speeds.

Does the car have service records?

yes but only a few.. nothing with the suspension or coolant system.
i tried the freeway run it had a few steering wheel nodding back and forth problems, that was alignment though. i skipped that one. i thought to my self a little to much miles. plus no records on anything and car fax shows a collision in 2002.. :s
Thanks you for the advice
