View Full Version : Broken Headlight Assembly Parts Help

First, some good news.

I installed HIDs and they are terrific! They're easy to install and the difference is night & day. I'm going to install 'em in my fogs next.

Now the bad news.

A few days into enjoying the HIDs, I decided (being the moronic perfectionist that I am) that I would further 'play' with the angle of the beams to get it 'just right'. I had already replaced the adjusters last year with the improved (if you can call 'em that) ones. Well, in my attempt at stupidity, I broke one of the Black Plastic Cups (or Plastic Thimble) that is mounted onto the back of the Headlight Assembly. This is the Cup that the adjuster joint pops into. I have searched around looking for the damn part number but to no avail.

Does anybody know that part #? Or better yet, does anybody actually have one that they'd like to sell me? I will pay top dollar to make it worth your while! :D

PS. I know I am NOT alone in this: I hate these headlight assemblies (aside from the neato aesthetic look they give the 8 series).

PSS. Note that in the pic, there is epoxy and 2 black zipties all over the broken cup. This was my feeble attempt at trying to fix it.

On Wuffers page there's a link for headlight refab...http://wuffer.net/MyFiles/Headlights.pdf
You can achieve the same results by purchasing 1/2" copper end caps from Home-Depot in the Plumbing Department and drilling them in the same pattern as shown in the pdf. You can re-use the white plastic adjusters. I've done this to my headlights and have had no problems. I would replace all 3 mountings. The easiest way to get to the existing mounting screw that is hidden by the adjuster is just by tapping on the plastic with a screwdriwer and I gurantee it will just shatter.

:lol You got that right! I appreciate the info, I had forgotten about the copper cap mod. I will try to buy a kit from Tom if he has one. Or else, I will attempt to make a set. I am not too skilled with the a drill, and I only have a Dewalt cordless. I suppose it would do the trick if I take my time and slap the copper end onto my vise.

Thanks!
