sbblowz 10-05-2008, 01:01 PM lol u can get a m3 for the same price.
Msantos 10-06-2008, 09:25 AM with very high miles. It depends what exactly your looking for.
Msantos 10-06-2008, 09:26 AM but he is also willing to negotiate.
dello 10-07-2008, 02:24 PM I think that price is kinda of steep. It has very low miles, but the car is ten years old and it's a four cylinder. You can get a honda with a better value for less than that.
E39Chris525i 10-07-2008, 05:42 PM Decent auction car that was picked up for no more than $2500. +1 on the E36 M3.
Msantos 10-07-2008, 08:06 PM yea ok
Msantos 10-07-2008, 08:07 PM price down to $8,990 not that it matters
325Andre 10-07-2008, 10:22 PM Don't get discouraged with the feedback here. You'll have better luck selling a car like that off the forums. Forum members are generally a more informed crowd, and tend to skew more towards the true enthusiast value of vehicles.
While Kelly blue book, Nada, or any other dealer book may say the 318 is worth X,XXX, most people here see that its only a 318, lacking the power of the 325/328/or M3 of that body style. The 8-10k range opens up a lot of possibilities when shopping for a bmw. E36 M3's are very attainable for 10k, as well as 5 series, and 7 series vehicles. And not all of those will have excessive mileage either.
Either way, it is a very clean example of an E36. Your friend could very well end up selling that car for 8k to someone with out any enthusiast knowledge simply looking for a very clean low mileage BMW.

I totally agree with you, but this is not a very special bmw-Maybe if it was a e28 or even a e34 5 series with low or high mileage. Don't get me wrong I love the e36 platform, but 8k or 9k for one of the weakest engines is a bit much. Plus the person who buys this car is going to need a serious set of snow tires if they live in new england. I really think the price should be 5k to 6.5k with the hopes of get 7k. I sold my 330xi, 2001 fully loaded with 125,000 on the clock for 9k and this car is no where near my car in features or value, except the low miles.
Msantos 10-10-2008, 06:50 PM after talking to him about the price he can take 7900 if any one is interested
Msantos 10-12-2008, 08:34 PM nobody?
az3579 10-12-2008, 10:12 PM Sorry mate, low mileage or not, that's still a lot of money for a 4-banger. That really is M3 territory, and it may have double the mileage or more, but if it's been well maintained, then there's no beating it.
I have to admit, 7900 is a lot more competitive than the original asking price, but I don't think you'll have an easy time selling it for over 6.5k. I looked on eBay for completed listings on a 97-98 318i and the closest successfully sold 318i had 7x,000 miles on it and sold for a hair less than 7k. The rest of them had well over 150,000 miles and sold for between 1k to 3k. All of the other cars that had higher buy it now prices, ones that were less than what's advertised for this one, didn't sell.
eBay, in my opinion, is an excellent way of gauging the value of a car. It's the market that decides, not the blue book. If he doesn't drop at least another grand on it, I don't think it's a bright future for a sale, unless he gets lucky and finds someone who doesn't care about having an M3 for the same price.
