the 5.0 emblem looks like something ford would put on their cars. I am not to fond of the Classic wheels either.

What engine is in there? The Z8?

a stock S600 will beat it in the quarter mile (and look better doing it).

the Z8 actually got two different motors- the M5 motor and recently a variant of the X5 4.6is motor. it appears the Z4 is using the early Z8/M5 motor.

Looks awesome! They even got rid of that hideous side blinker nipple thingy.

I like the wheels... but I must agree with you on the 5.0 emblem. That's got to go, it just looks so out've place.

I don't feel the front bumper but... who cares... it's a big-engine Z4 :D

Wow thats pretty pimp, I like it. At first I didn't like the z4, but its really grown on me, I really like it now. I'd love to own one, especially this one. :D

I'd rather see the 5.0 emblem in the same exact font/typeface?, size and location as the stock 2.5 and 3.0 emblems.

I like it, looks better than stock z4 but I bet it costs as much as a used z8. I'll take the two year old z8 every time and for the guy who dissed the "outdated z3" your taste is pretty poor imo. Every where I drive my mz3, people come up and want to know about it, say how nice it is, etc. Z3 is not outdated, its classic and will remain so.

At first I didn't like the looks of the Z4 either, but it grows on you. There is room for everyone here, isn't there? Besides, the factory made ton of improvements in this car, that will work in ours (Z-3 and M's) as well. I can't weight til people start wrecking these things.....LOL

I still think those times are conservative, that thing has a better power-to-weight ratio than an 03 Cobra, and more aggressive gearing to boot, I think with a decent driver and some drag radials it's in the 11's... :evil2

Hobbs,

Could you email me or PM what parts of the Z4 are compatible with the Z3? Or better yet post it in a new thread or something. This really interests me, expecially the suspension etc.

True, but it cost you a heck of a lot less and you're in the 11's. :buttrock

Jedi:

I'm still working on the cross reference. I'm interested in the rear suspension. It's far better that what we have now and I think with very little modification it will fit under our cars. A number of the pieces on the Z4 are aluminum instead of cast steel. I really haven't looked much at the front. Anyone know if the hub are cast aluminum? I could care less about the lower control arms. I am building my pieces out of 4130 tubing. Light and strong.

First wrecked Z4 I find, loses it's console, dash and roll hoops to me...LOL

Hobbs,

Can you supply me with a bit more info on your control arms you are making and will your custom brakes fit M3/Coupe front kingpins? 4130 tubing for trailing arms might be nice too- based on the M Coupe geometry.... comments?

"M Coupe geometry"
don't all the Z3 iterations have the same geometry?

hobbs, you're a lot like me.....

JediZ

In a general sense yes, but the M has stouter reinforced suspension parts.

Wonder what the balance and weight would be with this mod.

Zenon:

Your comment should scare you! I certainly hope for your sake, that you are much more sane!

Jedi:

Actually, The M's have slightly bigger bearing in the rear. That's it folks. No mystierious reinforcing beyond any of the other Z-3's. The halfshafts are .4 inches shorter than the 2.8, and the trailing arm has the exact same reinforcing. The 1.9 carriers the same width as the M but not nearly as stout. That part is true. I think the BMW engineer in charge of the rear suspension for these cars was on really good stuff while he was working as there is no logic or reason for what we ended up with. Just look at the piece of art sitting beneath the Z4!!!

BTW, anyone running across an engineering diagram of that...I want it. Seems no body wants to cut loose of this.

As for the front control arms, the set I am building are fairly simply. It's a modified "L" With a diaginal reinforcment at the elbow. The initial pieces will run stock BMW joints after that I want to see what is to gain by going to a hiem joint and how much rattle I pick up. I looked at 4130 trailing arms, but they aren't practical or economical. This is why I started looking at the Z4.

Last, I am building my brakes based on std e36. If I had enough interest I would build a set for the M group.

I've seen the A-B shot of the M Roadster reinforcing vs the E30 units and it ain't much folks, pre-cut the metal bracing @ home from some mild steel, pay a welder for coffee and he's (the welder) still ahead on the game! ;)

report back on those hiem's please, I was just going to throw them on and hope fort he best! :stickoutt

True, I was just commenting on the times being kinda conservative...
