View Full Version : Might be looking to trade my S2000 for an e36 M3.

Hey everyone. I used to an an e36 328is, and I sometimes really miss it. I sold my e36 with the intention of upgrading to an M3 but bought the s2000 after a few test drives. I have been looking more and more at the e36 m3's again and I am thinking about a trade. If anyone with an e36 m3 is looking for a trade, let me know. So here are the details about my s2k.

I bought the car in April. It is a Silverstone metallic s2k. I bought it at 59k miles, it now has 67,xxx miles. I have daily driven it this summer since I bought it and it has been problem free.

The Good:
The engine/tranny is near perfect. I just bought two new rear tires last week, Hankook Ventus r-s2 (very sticky summer tires). Upgraded shift knob, cold air intake, lowered on good springs. Paint is very nice with the exceptions of two scratches mentioned later in the post. Interior is is super good condition, 9/10. Aftermarket Sony cd player with an Aux input you can hook up an Ipod/mp3 player. The car handles extremely well. I have changed the oil 3 times since I have had the car, full synthetic Mobil one. And I have changed the tranny and differential fluid as well. The car has a valid inspection and passes everything, except the car has 35% tints. The wheels are painted black, and I just repainted them 2 weeks ago. (If you look at the pictures, the wheels are a very dirty black color, since they have been repainted they look much better and fresh.)

Issues:
There are a few issues that I haven't had the chance to fix yet. The soft top has a rip in the rear plastic window, which is pretty common on the s2k's. I have it sealed with plastic and there is no leakage at all, and really doesn't bother me cause I drive top down 9/10 days. I am eventually going to order a new top with a glass rear window for $600 and install myself, if I keep the car.

The front rotors are also warped and needs new front pads replaced. I have a set of oem front pads sitting in my room, and the rotors oem can be had for $90 each, or aftermarket oem-spec for $6o each.

The car also experienced something called 'clutch buzz' which is extremely common on these cars. Basically, when you are in second or third and decellerating, there is a buzzing noise which comes from the clutch area. This is not a sign that anything is wrong, its just something that happens as the earlier models used a different type of retainer clips or something. You can read all about that on any s2k forum (s2ki.com is the best). My transmission and clutch is near perfect, just makes the common noise.

The front lip has a scratch on it that some touch up paint would fix, and there are 2 small scratchs on the rear bumper. The previous owner ran some debris over and it bounced up and made a scratch.

Overall the car is in excellent condition. With the exceptions of the soft top (which is fine, doesnt leak, just has the sealed hole) and 2 small scratches, the car is fantastic.

What I am looking for:

E36 M3, 5-speed only. I am not interest in any other e36 models, so no 328, 325, engine swaps, just e36 m3's. I might also consider a Mini Cooper S.

Needs to be 2 door, with as little mods as possible.

So, 5 speed, 2 doors, non vert, very little mods. I am not to picky about color, but would prefer a green, and really anything except black. Vaders are a must.

~100k miles or below. I would be looking for an even trade, as I have no money to give on top of it, or my car for your m3 + some cash depending the car.

PM me if you have an e36 m3 or a Mini Cooper S for trade.

Pics can be seen here. http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=622135&hl=

The wheels have since been repainted, so all of the brown on the wheels are gone.

I am not looking to sell the car outright, just trades. Also, I have no problem keeping the car, and I will probably end up keeping it, so there is no rush for me to trade or anything, I am just looking to see what is out there.

Thanks

The Car is officially for sale! Asking price is $14k or trade for a nice e36 M3 + cash

Haha yea the s2000 is a great car, but as my only car while I am in college, it is pretty impractical. I could see someone getting by just fine with it as their only car, but at this point in my life I need something else.

I miss my e36 :(

So sedans are out of the question as part of a trade?

I would really prefer a coupe, but I wouldnt object to a sedan. Interested in a trade? Tell me about your car if you are.

You can sell it and still get a e36 m3 with $$ left over to fix anything.

Yea I realize finding a trade will be difficult. I will probably end up just selling it and buying an M3. This is really just to see what is out there, as I am not yet sure if I definitely want to sell or trade it.

what up Sean.
My advice is that If your going to trade, atleast trade for something like an E46 M3.. Or just sell the car and Buy an E36 M3 and have a bunch of extra cash to mess around with. But anyway, if you do decide to sell the S2K then let me know a price

I've been giving it more thought and I will most likely sell it out right and buy an m3 separately. My asking price would be around $14k. I again am in no rush to sell and have no problem keeping the car, I just miss the e36. Pm me if you're interested.

I have been considering selling the M3 for an s2000. I want to go drive some in the area to see how I like them first.

Kinda falls outside of what you ideally want.
2dr, black/black, 114k miles (runs and looks like less), mods in sig

I'll give it some thought if you want, I haven't gotten past the initial idea phase yet

ughh im gonna have to test drive some random local s2ks now to see if I like them.

In all honesty, how is the s2k in winter/snow? Basic even toss up with an m3?

Haha, if you're ever in the New Brunswick area let me know and you can test drive mine, and I'll test your M.

I haven't had the car during the winter, but I would imagine it would be just as sloppy as the M3 in snow. I hear with decent snow tires it is alright though.

Someone with an M3 must want to trade. I don't feel like going through the hassle of selling the S2000 and searching for an M.

I would give it a bit of time. Trades are better b/c you don't both pay taxes. That alone saves atleast $1k

Yea, it just limits my selection and it's harder to find someone with a nice car who wants to trade.

Dude when i met you to give you the helmet, i was debating taking my dads since he was gone to meet you but i had already said look for my car...His is an 00 and he never lets my mom, me or God drive it so i've only been in it a handful of times. I say go for it though, very fun cars to drive and very different in comparison to ours.

Ha, funny you posted this. I wanted an S2k bad a while back and would have been willing to trade my M3 for one.

I just took the S out for a drive after a long day/night of studying. Put the top down. The best stress relief ever. After driving two e36 M3's today, around the same on-ramp/off-ramp-u-turn course which I frequently take for fun, and then doing it in my S, I am having my doubts. Haha. My life would be much easier with the space, but the S is so much more fun. I know I accelerate faster in the M3, but I feel faster in the S.

Decisions decisions.

Didn't realize that was a turbo at first, was wondering you your price came from.

Where in CT are you? Have you been to any of the Fairfield meets? I don't recall seeing your car.

still and e36 with M power and best of all it's a drop top!!

They go for around the same price as e36 M's
I just picked up an '00 Z3 2.3 and love it, I can only imagine what it would be like in ///M form :)

I love the M roadster, and I considered it before I bought the s2k, but the main reason I would be making the switch is to have more space. I'm not completely sure if I want to do it though. Everytime I drive my car I know I will regret selling it.
