840 (including tax) for:

Brake bleed ( I provided the fluid)
Diff bleed ( I provided the fluid)
Rear Spring Install
Diff Mount
Alignment

I was planning on taking it to project m-spec, who quoted me $490 (which included installation of SS brake lines), but parentals advised I take it somewhere closer (mspec is an hour away). Dad agreed to pay the difference from the 490 I was gonna pay since it was his brilliant idea, but it still pisses me off cuz its still money out of my family's pockets.

It was at Wheel Alignments Plus in Porchester btw
f*ck it I'll drive an hour if it means saving 300 bucks next time

Thats what you get from these non indy BMW shops. I'm surprised they didn't tell you that you needed:

Full tune up
fuel cleaning sytsem flush
coolant system flush
full glovebox flush

Dude the guy (owner) def. didn't know his shit. I went there to drop off the fluids, and saw they had the swaybars out for the diff mount. I told him to put some lithium grease in the bushings since theyre polyurethane (UUC swaybarbarians) so they squeaked alot, and he was like "Yea we don't beleive in lithium grease, it eats away the bushings. We don't like anything poly in general, it wears away too quickly"

Well now you know next time to put your foot down if your father tells you to go back to that place. Do you know how many of these places say that BMW's have V6's?!

ouch man, that sucks that bill must have hurt some. You should try Performance Imports here in bethel CT. Probably 45 minutes away from you but they are really good, they tell you exactly what is up, No BS and don't do anything you don't tell them.

For that price you could have had it done at ICS right in Stamford. They're very expensive, but they know what they're doing. Doesn't sound like the place you went to had much experience

And btw - drive to mpec from now on. I drove there all last year from Stamford when I needed work done, and I'll be doing it Fairfield which is 20+ miles farther away next time I need work done. The money you save is worth it, and they're the most honest, down to early mechanics I have ever met. They'll explain anything for you if you just ask

I got a short story (sorry to hijack the tread :nono). This guy like 11 years ago was trying to vaporize me! My 87 528e needed a cadillac converter and this guy told me $1K for the part. Called up Bavauto and it was like $350 back then. Yes, it was a non BMW mechanic and I know its a cat converter, not cadillac :D.

I would rather go to project M Spec instead of ICS. If he would have gone to ICS the bill would have been more then 840 bucks.:lol

Sh*T, you could have driven to me (45 minutes from Stamford) and I would have done it ALL for FREE save for the alignment. Everything you had done was extremely easy to do with basic tools, a jack, and some jack stands.

Question, how much would you charge to change the transaxle fluid and differential fluid on my wife's 03 325xi?! Where in CT are you?

yes there is but you dont bleed it. you simply open the screw let it drain out and then pour the new fliud in.
you bleed brakes wich involved opening each bleeder valve on each of teh 4 calipers and pumping the brake pedal and refilling the master.

you certainly didn't make it clear thats what you meant by the way you said it, your blinker fluid sarcasm threw me off. But yes I am aware its simply draining and refilling if you wanna get that anal about it :rolleyes

Mspec does good work. Everything except for maybe the spring you could do yourself. Imagine how much it would have been with they're fluid?? Atleast your dad paid the difference, I guess he wanted the piece of mind or maybe he doesn't think a indy shop in NYC is trustworthy enough. But still....they bent you over with NO lubrication.

Next time host a meet at your house. Provide burgers, dogs and some booze, and I'm sure you could get enough forums members to help out with most everything else besides the alignment.... Providing you have a decent set of tools.

Hey, tell your dad the next time he feels like pissing away $350 to just contact me.

Seriously -- It is time to have a sit down with dad and educate him. Project M-Spec has nothing but a fantastic reputation, and even if the cost was the same it would still be wiser to go to someone with a good rep in the enthusiast circle that knows the car inside and out, rather than a shop that services Buicks for grandma.
