Picked up my little brother from school and gave one of his friends a ride home and she got gum on my carpet...that stupid little girl. Anyway, does anyone know how to get it out? Thanks.

hey man that sucks, i feel you because little sister managed to put crayon on my carpet... best advice i can give you is that there is a thing called "goo gone" sounds kind of ridiculous, but it says it removes grease, stickers, tar, gum, crayon, tape... etc. one word of advice though, its pretty strong, so before using it, test it on a place thats hidden in your car... lol in case of any side affects like taking the color out of your carpet... good luck

... that we use at my movie theatre. I can't recall the name other than "Gum Remover". This stuff is wicked cool. It somehow through chemicals is REALLY DAMN COLD and it basically freezes the gum up and you take a paint scraper and it comes up real easy, vacuum the little pieces up. Warning: Don't spray on open skin, it burns like hell (almost like insta-frostbite ;) ).

We use it all the time, being a movie theatre there are a lot of stupid kids with gum that flies out of their mouths...

I can look into for you I don't know the $ or if it's just to theatres (I doubt it..) or what not. I'd try Goo-Gone first, I use it at my house, good stuff!

Good luck!

PS- I think Wal-Mart has Goo-Gone, my Dad picked up some at Sears Repair when we got our lawnmower tuned, they had a little display. It's good stuff!

Get a can of the spray that can be bought to blow debris from keyboards or electronic printed circuit boards...just plain compressed air. Hold the nozzle real close to the gum so it becomes real cold. You will be able to actually crack the gum it becomes so hard. An ice cube will also do it too but it takes a little longer and it will melt and get the carpet a little wet but that's no problem to soak up.

The trick is to get the gum cold and it's easily removed then.

if all else fails then go to a car wash place and show it to them. they will undoubtedly charge a lot but I bet they can get it out. a friend of mine sat in my 2000 M5 and had gum all over his shorts. it was smeared all over the seat and absolutely would not come out no matter what I tried....I took it to the car wash and you can never tell that it was there! it was BRIGHT orange gum on blue and black leather....it was horrible. You do have diff material, but I still reccomend this if all else fails.

Don't waste your time with goo gone and that sort of stuff, they just make it worse!!

1. Fill a plastic bag with ice.
2. Wrap a small towel around the bag so you can hold it for a long period without freezing your hand.
3. Wrap the bag of ice around the gum. Hold it there for 20 minutes. You want to freeze the gum so that it cracks off.
4. Chip gum off slowly, do not yank at it. If it starts to stretch or becomes sticky again, reapply the ice.
5. If you are unable to get all of the gum off, repeat the process.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think I'll try each one at a time tomorrow when it's not so hot outside. Thanks again.

Quest,
SOunds crazy...but use WD-40; it will dissolve the gum real easy. Then use a carpet cleaner like Resolve to get the WD40 out. I did this a year ago..works like a charm.

if it's on the carpet mat then just remove the mat and stick it in the freezer overnight - after that just chip frozen gum out

in case its on the carpet itself - go to hardware store and buy 'goo gone' or similar product. make sure u test it on hidden area of carpet to make sure its not going to eat out color of the carpet.

Good luck man

:)

I had to get some gum out of the carpet in our house. The ice was taking too long, so my dad had a tube of nitrogen left from his old office.........

edit: tube? what the hell am I talking about! it's a canister, that's the appropriate term.

So....... it worked to say the least. The carpet got kinda frozen though....

Lighter fluid (with Naphtha) works well too.

hey if you use the ice method, then at least the gum will still be good to chew during a long sleepy drive!!!:D
