As the title suggests -- they are all pretty damn close in price on ebay. Within $15-20 of each other.
Infinity Kappa 693.5i = $120.00
JBL P953 - $118.00
Focal 690Ca = $118.00
Eclipse 89940 - $118.00
Kenwood Excelon - $108.00
Rockford Fosgate - $108.00
Etc...etc... any other recommendations??
My primary question is should I get 2-way or 3-way ones?
I am mounting them in the rear of an E36 coupe ... because I have the 6x9 brackets.
Thanks,
James

can you wire 6x9's to the stock amp setup or do the oem rears have weird crossovers like the fronts?

I too am curious about this.
I just realized that the stock e36 speakers sound like ass. My dads x5 sounds SOO much clear and nicer

I know there is a three channel amplifier out there, I forget who makes it though ... I believe Kicker does ...
Also, why are you recommending a 2-way 6x9 versus a 3-way 6x9 88bimmer???
I always thought 3-way and 4-way 6x9's were better than 2 way ones .... what am I missing here???

I'm no audio expert but the main reason that the e36 speakers are so crappy is due to the fact that they are made of paper. Most if not all speakers made today are from a plastic type material. My 99 altima with the plastic type speakers).sounds cleaner and cripser than my 95 325i
Does anyone know when BMW stopped using the paper and started using the plastic speakers for the HK systems? TIA

UH, you only really need one way in back, in a correctly tuned system the rear is used only for fill. why would you need tweeters in the back? would you want your stereo faded to rear so you can hear the high hats behind you? haha...that would sound crappy. anyhoo, if you got 3-way you would be wasting the high end back there b/c you wouldnt tune it that way. the BEST thing to do if you must put speakers back there is get some 6x9 midbass drivers, yeeeaaaa - thats what im talking about

Love my JBL P9632's (2-way) from Crutchfield for $80:

2-way (or less) in back is recommendation from those that have done this. Make sure that you get high sensitivity and low frequency response (92 dB and 25 Hz, respectively for P9632's).

I'm driving these directly from an Alpine 7984 HU, which simplifes connections for those with 4-lead rear speaker wiring, and eliminates the bass boost inherent in the BMW factory amp.
