View Full Version : ANything higher than 91 octane in Phoenix?
jimw1010 06-16-2003, 10:24 PM Hey everybody I just moved out to Phoenix AZ from the east coast. Back east there is 93and 94 octane available but all I've seen out here is 91 octane. Is this the highest octane available here? If not where can I find at least 92?
I'm asking because I just bought an AA chip and they don't recommend using it with less than 92 octane, so itf there is nothing more than 91, I might not install the chip...HELP!!!
welcome to hel.....i mean AZ :D
unfortunately no.....91 is the highest octane for pump gas (it's pretty much the same for the rest of the western states), and it costs more than 93 octane back east, wtf?!?!?
but AA has dealers in cali, so they gotta make chips that work w/ 91 octane, right?
ImageDynamicsM3 06-16-2003, 11:16 PM I am running the "92 octane +" Active autowerkes chip. No problems whatso-ever. Don't worry about 1 octane point. And if you are concerned. We have 100 at the pump in Scottsdale. The shit doesn't really make a difference for me, but if you are really worried......

Blah... I swear to god, my Conforti chip was pinging on 91. :dunno
This damn hot air definitely has to have something to do with it though.
Iniquity 06-17-2003, 03:50 AM If you use Chevron 91 octane you should be okay... 91 chevron actually tends to be more around 93-95 octane... which is actually why Chevron tends to be more expensive than other gas brands... at least that's what a former chevron employee said.. and if you're in PHX or CA.. gas tends to have higher levels of ethenol (for cleaner burning) .. which boosts the octane level a little bit..
if not... just go buy some paint thinner and do some math.. and get urself that 93 octane...
:D
Crazy Dave 06-17-2003, 10:55 AM mmmmmm...paint thinner....
MikeBMW 06-17-2003, 01:29 PM Xylene is the paint thinner Shane is referring too. A lot of turbo guys use it, hunter used to use it in his car.
jimw1010 06-18-2003, 12:43 AM Paint thinner huh? That seems a bit two risky for me. I wonder if that Chevron info is legit or just a bs selling point. Has anyone ever tried that over the counter octane booster stuff?
I guess I'm going to just put the chip in and stickwith the OVERPRICED 91 octane....oh yeah on the east coast 94 octane is about 1.72 per gallon....what's up with that?
AzN_M5 06-18-2003, 04:07 AM I'm starting to run a combination race fuel and premium mix. So it's like 3-4 gallons of 100 Octane and 13-14 gallons of 91. Ultimately, it comes out to like a 95-96 Octane mix. Surprisingly, there is quite a noticeable increase of power in my car.:evil2
Iniquity 06-18-2003, 07:08 PM CHeck your math Chris... that doesn't sound right at all.. you're probably more around 92-93... assuming the 91 is exactly 91 and the 100 is actually 100... and you can't do a simple algebraic equation either.. you're dealing with varying concentrations.. you actually need to do a differential equation for the most accurate solution.... which I forgot how to do... so you're on your own.. :D btw.. you still chilling with me in tucson? let me know... i'll give you the "Shanester" version of the tour around campus.. which would mainly consist of being somewhere near girls.. :devillook
MikeBMW 06-18-2003, 07:33 PM Shanester on the prowl... :boink

AzN_M5 06-19-2003, 03:32 AM Screw it all, I'm just going to go to the paint store and buy 10 gallons of Talulene (spell check please) and dump that in my tank.
I'm sure my engine will blow, but what a trip up to 160 that will be!
