What kind of wax do you recommend and "how often" should I wax it, being that I wash it so much? 2Questionable 06-16-2003, 11:35 AM Try the Zaino products--they seem to last the longest and offer the most protection, especially with a lot of washes. The carnuba waxes seem to break down after about a month--the Zaino, with maybe 2-3 applied coats over three weekends, will last up to three months easily. And the shine looks great. Kyle K. 06-16-2003, 12:57 PM First, I would stop washing it so much. The majority of swirls come from washing and drying so you're very likely to have a swirled paintjob sooner if you wash it every day. Try the California Car Duster for in between washes, and wash it maybe twice a week. And now on to your question. I would recommend using the Klasse twins (All in One and Sealant Glaze) topped with S100 wax. You can get them both from our supporting vendor Autogeek. The Klasse will provide you with great protection (as it is a sealant not a wax) and the S100 will give you a great shine. 2Questionable 06-16-2003, 01:29 PM Originally posted by Kyle K. Not if you're washing your car correctly and going front to back on the top, and top to bottom on the sides. It helps to avoid swirl marks greatly when washing and drying a car using that method. And the type of cloth you use to wash/dry makes a different as well. I think the microfiber ones work the best, and you can toss them in the washing machine with a mild detergent to get them clean after they're used. Just don't toss them in the dryer, and never put fabric softener in with them either. Same with cotton towels, although those can be tossed in the dryer. GKGreen 06-16-2003, 04:16 PM Actually Kyle is correct, even with the the best products, swirls are induced by washing. I would personally get some Clearkote Quickshine and then about every other day, do a quick QD of the car. Poorboy's has Spray and Wipe that is also very good. This will help reduce your washings. As for wax, Kyle's recommendations of AIO and SG are very good. Personally I find SG somewhat fickle to work with. I would recommend Poorboy's EX sealant as it works wonders and lasts a long time, topped with S100. I'm not a fan of Zaino. There are many other products that last a long time that give much more depth to the paint and achieve IMO better results. hal9000 06-16-2003, 06:39 PM Yes Kyle is correct. No need to was the car that much. Get the CCD or pick up some quick detailer ala quickshine and some microfiber cloths... Either that or get another hobby....if you've got that much time to wash the car every day...you need more distractions....:D Ben Carufel 06-16-2003, 06:43 PM I'll take a little bit of what each of those guys said and put it together :). First off I agree that you don't need to wash your car every day, or even rinse it. Rinsing can be especially bad since you're not necessarily getting the dirt off of the paint with a surfactant, which would lift the dirt from the surface and then rinse/wipe it away. When you just rinse there's going to be dirt left on the paint and you are going to move that dirt around on the paint when you dry the car. Bad bad. I agree with Kyle about the California Car Duster. I swear by this thing. I just want to clarify that he meant wash your CAR twice a week, not the California Car Duster. The Duster doesn't have to be washed much at all -- I'd say once a year would be plenty, even though I don't wash mine at all and it still works great. I also agree about Klasse. I've never been a big fan of Klasse's High Gloss Sealant Glaze (SG), but I recently tried a new method of buffing it off -- I used a microfiber dampened with Griot's SpeedShine quick detailer. I let it sit overnight and it was incredibly easy to buff off, but even after letting the second coat sit just two and a half hours it was very, very easy. This has changed my mind about SG forever. Also, I would put a coat of S100 wax on every time you wash the car. If you wash twice a week, put a coat of S100 on twice a week. This will keep your paint shiny as hell, and you will also extend the life of the Klasse because you'll be using the wax as a barrier to keep stuff from eating away at the Klasse. Lastly, definitely pick up a good Quick Detailer. I'm a fan of Griot's SpeedShine and Meguiar's QuikDetail, but any of the ones these guys mentioned would work great. Make sure you stay away from Zymöl Detail Spray though. That's the stuff in the blue spray bottle. It's crap. hal9000 06-16-2003, 07:00 PM Originally posted by Ben Carufel I'll take a little bit of what each of those guys said and put it together :).
