View Full Version : ASC Fault Codes. Suggestions/solutions please ?

Got my car back from service and MOT today, plus a few other bits that needed doing.

My main question today is regarding two Error Codes that are still showing for the ASC system causing both ABS and ASC lights to stay on:

1) Code: 34 ASC CHANGEOVER VALVE
2) Code: 55 ASC INTAKE VALVE

The garage says that these are most likely wiring faults, possibly a broken wire or bad earth connection, which will require 'further invstigation' - of which cannot be quoted for because it could take 2 hours if lucky, or could take 2 days or more given the enormity of the e31 ASC Wiring loom.

I have had a new ASC ECU as the old one was corroded, so we can eliminate that, but where else should one start to look for the causes of these fault codes - obvious first (not to me of course) and thereafter. Has anyone ever had these faults rectified and what was found to be the cause ?

John (Spruegoose) checked my wheel sensors and they were ok. I've had his ABS pump fitted and that eliminated the ABS Return Pump fault code.

I appreciate that it is difficult if not impossible to say without seeing my car (1997 840 4.4) but I have to ask, given the wealth of knowledgeable people on here. There must be someone who has had a similar problem to this before..... I just hope they read my post !

Cheers (with fingers crossed)
Tony

Hi Tony, best of luck with this one mate. All I would say is check the plug on top of your new ASC ECU as the corrotion that ruined your ECU could have damaged the corrosponding terminal in the plug. I had same fault were ECU pins and plug terminals were corroded.

I dont know how these ECUs get wet but it seems to be a UK problem, I think it was Nick F that also had this prolem.

Best regards Luke.

Probably something you've already looked at, but if not, it's always good to make sure you've got good voltage from the batteries. Low voltage can cause all sorts of unexplained weirdness...

Thanks for replies.

I had a new plug fitted at the same time as the ECU as both were heavily corroded. All the new connections are sound, so the fault probably lies somewhere further afield from the ECU. I've been told to check all the end points of the ASC electrical system for bad contacts.... a time consuming job I'm sure. However, I do not, as yet, know where the relavent modules/valves are.

Can anyone point me the right direction please ?

As for the battery power, I know that's not the case. Got 2 newish batteries giving out full power, so I very much doubt it's that. Thanks for the heads up though.

Cheers
Tony
