Curious how long everyone here has had their E31, how much they paid for it and general thoughts. I'd love to own an E31 someday. Beautiful machines. E31 and E32 = best BMW's, ever. :)

3 years, traded a 1995 740iL for it, put in another $30,000, was all well worth it.

1993 850 Ci - 1 of 3 built in 93 with this color combo (1 of 21 overall for white)

I heard 5 Billion was invested into mines, I think that's what "CAD to Success Story" told me, Or was it Tx? I regret none of it though!!!--)

it was actually 1 billion dollars, which comes out to almost $50,000 per car for R&D.

1.5 yrs/ 18k probably overpaid if you ask others but value is to the buyer. Market today would put me at a loss. Currently going for the 5K overhaul so I can finally enjoy it.Spent about 1k before that. One does not buy this car to recoupe the investment. The pride and club exclusive is what one invests in. I will keep her forever, so if you are worried about cost you should not own one.

Had two E32's... They were nice barges to drive. I preferred the M30 engine out of the different engine versions :)

I won't ever sell my E31 since it was initially a project btwn me & my now deceased Pop.

I will get another E31 sooner than later.

It is all about pride of ownership. I've spent thousands & thousands on my 8, with clearly no end in sight. No regrets. The 8 is not for the stingy. The 8 is not for the impatient. The 8 is not for 99.9% of earthlings. It is a wholly misunderstood anachronism. It is a misfit of teutonic engineering. It is a rabid black sheep dressed in a perfectly tailored woolen armani suit. I smile every damn time I get into my ride--and that is daily! :D

PS. 66k & counting!

1 year, and the person before me didnt do s**t, so its up to me. everything on this car cost big money, so if you are going to get one start saving now. and ask for all records on the car, it will save you in the long run. im about to get the head gaskets done. anyone want to help????? but i love the car and dont think i will ever sell it.

Have a 91 850i with 146k miles. Daily commuter. Have had it for 5 years..wow time flies. Paid under 20k. Have a 95 CSI in storage, 4420km
Have had it in the family since 95. The 8 to this day is a head-turner but now (depending on where you live) it’s out of the spotlight so you don't have to worry where to park it or search for valet parking. Also It’s kind of eerie to be the only one 8 series in the day or night commute.

How is the steering of the CSi compared to the normal i?

I have owned my 8 for about 8 months or so. I have complete history of the car going back to the day it was sold new. One owner, 60k miles, spent 21k for a 1997 840Ci. The prices have fallen since then, but I don't care!

BTW E38>E32. Sorry just is. :)

How is the steering of the CSi compared to the normal i?

Its tighter, more responsive and stiff. Night and day difference with original rims and tread not to mention quicker.
But I have recently modified my suspension on my 850i. First I staggered the rims. 245/40/18 9.5 wide in the front and 275/30/19 10 wide rear with H&R track+ spacers. H&R springs with Bilstein shocks. Rides totally different. Takes turns almost as well as the csi. But the biggest improvement IMO is the looks. The rear wheels dont tuck in like all the 8's.

My 8 is a silver car on Schnitzer wheels. I saw a black 40 in Jersey a few days ago.

give these guys a call cant hurt .....
if they can do V12 m70 with a superthin gasket and you resurface your heads you'll kick up your compression ratio.
That would be sick!!!

Bought it back in May 2007 for just over $15k. I first saw the 8 series back in 1992 while I was a freshman in college attending the LA Auto Show and I told my friends that I would own one someday. It is the only car I can truly say that I HAD to have.

The two "regrets" I do have about my car is 1) it isn't a CSI and 2) since it's not a CSI I wish that it was at least a 97.

I don't think I will ever sell my car unless an affordable CSI presents itself to me. :)

£56000 and traded a 1995 3.8 M5. Swapped the 18's off the M5 for the 17" throwing stars though. Owned it 9 years, had 17000m on it then, 50000m now. I thought that was reasonable money as the original invoice 2 years earlier (its a 1996 CSi) was for £89000.

Welcome to rip-off Britain.

Just past my 1 year anniversary from last summer and I've put about 8,000 miles on her since then. After putting about $10k in to get her like I want her, pending regular maintenance or catastrophe, we're running smooth for a while at a very nice par.
