Why no Zymol mentioned here?

View Full Version : opinions on Zymol? ///MD 06-13-2003, 01:43 PM Why no Zymol mentioned here? G. P. Burdell 06-13-2003, 01:50 PM I bought a Zymol introductory kit last summer. The "Carbon" wax gave a great shine on my car, but it didn't last very long, and it was difficult to buff off the excess. I have switched to Griot's Best of Show Wax, applied with a Porter Cable polisher, and have no regrets. IslandS62 06-13-2003, 03:06 PM I agree. I used Zymol Carbon for about 4 years on my M3. Never used anything else, but have since switched to P21S and have been much happier with it. Easier to buff, lasts a bit longer, and is cheaper too. I still think Zymol is a good product (esp. HDCleanse) but there is better for less $$$ and require less work. Keef 06-13-2003, 05:34 PM I was a zymol fan for 3 years. The carbon wax is OK, looks great while it lasts, but durability is subpar IMO. HD Cleanse is a VERY good hand applied paint polish. All in all I think the zymol system is very appropriate for a garage queen type car with excellent paint. I have since switched to klasse, which was much more durable, much easier application and removal, despite the fact that there is a learning curve w/ the SG (if not applied correctly it will leave streaks and hazing). I recently purchased a PC, the 3m line of prep products and zaino, but because it has been raining for like 7 weekends in a row here in NY, I have not had a chance to try them out yet  GKGreen 06-13-2003, 06:42 PM The Zymol you buy at Pepboys is made by Turtle Wax. I've tried Carbon, but for the money- not worth it. hal9000 06-13-2003, 08:25 PM The real zymol is good, but the fake is just turtle wax repackaged. Good stuff just isn't worth the $$$. S100 is just as good if not better on most cars and is alot less. MGRMLN 06-13-2003, 09:50 PM I've been using Zymol Z3 Glaze and I couldn't be happier. It is supposedly formulated for our cars paint. I have no idea if this is truly the case, but I can tell you it shines better on my car than any other wax I've used on any of my cars. Very easy to apply and remove. Doesn't dry and haze like conventional waxes. That said, I have been very curious about Zaino and all the wonderful things folks have been saying about that product. BTW, I only use Griot's Best of Show wax on my 2002tii since she's a garage queen. http://homepage.mac.com/mpak/MGRMLN/PhotoAlbum13.html IdriveBMW 06-13-2003, 09:54 PM in my experiences, zymol doesn't last long, makes a mess when buffing out, and sometimes is difficult to remove its residue.....otherwise-makes a real nice shine. ///MD 06-14-2003, 10:37 AM Thanks for the reviews, I hear different things from everyone... Zymol has been great for me until I have started getting more birdshit marks, scratches and fallout from regular use. I seem to need something with more abrasive qualities to get the surface imperfections out. It seems that the 3M line is universally recommended, as well as the P21S stuff. I just worry about inflicting more damage with abrasives... I am also wondering if the synthetics like Zaino are OK for the long term. GKGreen 06-14-2003, 12:25 PM What's up fellow KC guy? Synthetics are great because they last so long. I am not a big fan of Zaino b/c it amplifies a cars problems and creates a saran-wrap like shine, not much depth. 3M makes good polishes, but are often difficult to work with without a machine. P21S is a pure wax that doesn't have any abrasive qualities (not a cleaner wax) and will not help bird doo marks, scratches/swirls or anything like that. If you are ever in OP, I'd be more than happy to help you out as I have a detailing business. Take care. hal9000 06-14-2003, 08:26 PM Originally posted by MGRMLN I've been using Zymol Z3 Glaze and I couldn't be happier. It is supposedly formulated for our cars paint. I dunno about the easy to remove as you're suppose to wait at least 3-4 hrs before final buffing/removal AND use medium to heavy pressure to do the initial removal....If you want something that's easy on/easy off try S100 or P21S. It's about half the price of Zymol - I can do my entire e36 including wash/dry in about 90 min with S100. Zaino's nice, but it requires a virtually perfect surface. Because it's optically pure, it magnifies any imperfections in your paint. Carnuba's just more forgiving IMHO. LmtdSlip 06-15-2003, 12:27 AM I recently opurchased the Zymol spray "Detail" product. I was was very disapointed as it left a significna t haze when I used it with a 100% cotton cloth. It streaked and hazed because the rag had a hard time absorbing the excess. I thought a Microfiber rag might be the way to go. So I purchased a Turtle Wax 70/30 microfiber rag and the results are significantly better. I am interested to see if other detail products are any better than the Zymol. Unless you are using a MF cloth I don't recommend the Zymol Detail spray. I believe it's also manufactured by Turtle Wax. No one I've heard or talked to seems to like it. I still stand by my belief that one-step products (cleaner waxes, clean(QD)&wax at the same time sprays, etc.) are crap. You have to do two steps (or more) if you want to get a good finish. ///MD 06-15-2003, 11:51 AM GKGreen, Thanks for the advice, I hope to meet up with you folks at some point I am planning on the CCA Driving Event at HP Topeka next month. Hope to meet some more folks there. I haven't made the meetings since it is a 2 hr drive... I might have to look you up for the detail help! later! -Bill |
