This particular run starts in NJ, and follows rte 80 across PA, and ends up in Black Forest (just outside of Lockhaven pa). It combines safe but spirited freeway driving with an equally spirited winding country road driving experience. Once at the Black forest inn everyone has a great opportunity to check out each others rides, meet and greet other members of the community, and finally get something to eat.
The driving is no less than thrilling, the members involved have proven to be first rate, and in the very least it will get you some action pics of your car, and most likely get it featured in a videa. E-FAMOUS:redspot

how fast do u guys really go... i haven't pushed my car to that limit but in other cars i have and the engine starts to shut down after a certain speed, doesn't that happen in these cars also...

I've gone 2+hours 120+ with no problems. Bimmers love to be driven.

They dont shut off. I believe most of them are limited to 128mph. I know for the E46 series the speedometers are off by 7%. When I hit the governer (128), my speedometer reads about 137 mph.

The engine does not shut off. When you hit the limiter it just like letting off the gas. Even though I hit 128 pedal to the floor, the throttle will let off, then accelerate to 128, let off, 128, let off...the whole time the pedal is too the floor.

I know other bmws have different limits also. M3-155, zhp-155, not sure what the others are

The car is running great, but found out something i didn't expect.
If I turn the A/C on - it seems to disable the Dinan transmission software somehow.
I notice the tranny shift pattern in SPORT mode doesn't rev as high with the air blowing.
Probably a precautionary safeguard built into the software.

Met some cool dudes at the BMW dealership today.
They're buying a new M3, and will be joining us on the run.
But they might bring a Mercedes, if they can't get the M3 they want, at the price they want.

Speaking of the new M3
CPO ( Certified Pre Owned ) looks to be the way to go

Yep. Windows up with no ac. Occasionally drop the window a bit for some airflow.

While I initially wanted the Black Forest Run to be a Euro car rally

I've come to realize that the run is about the car enthusiasts, as much as it is the car.
I've run with a Subaru wrx, Honda S2000 , a Mitsubishi Evo, as well as an NSX
Solid cars in their own right.

Who am I to judge a person because of the car they drive ?

If it's a Sports car ( And not a Tonka toy )

It's fine with me.

Of course, we may have members who disagree, and want the Black Forest Run to remain a Euro Sports car event.

If you feel that way, let me know why you think it should stay Euro.

Hey guys. After giving it some thought, I came up with the following plan. If everyone can handle tossing in 5-10 bucks (or more if you're feeling generous), Steve and I will do the following. I will shoot pictures all day, edit the majority of them, and post up a thread for all to enjoy. Mind you, these will all be professional quality shots, not just snapshots. I will also provide edited high-res versions of any of the shots to those who ask. I will also take requests for specific shots of peoples' cars. Furthermore, Steve will film the event with his professional quality video camera and we will edit together a well-made video for everyone to enjoy. We will post it on YouTube and let everyone see/share it. Steve will also do a segment on the run in his full-length DVD due out sometime this year. Copies of the full DVD will be available upon completion and release.

If this sounds acceptable, then I look forward to seeing you guys there. Obviously, this is all contingent on how much we can get together. Dont get me wrong, we both love hanging out with everyone and seeing all the cars the day of, but it is very tedious and takes a lot of time/work to edit all the photos and videos to the quality that we strive for, so make it worth our while! Haha.

If you do a mapquest of the area we are running up route 80 west.
You will see it is basically one straight road.............for 300 miles.
With an hour + of mountain road driving.
There's nothing like it around here.

I really wish we could find a final starting meeting spot other then the side of the road, I could get a bunch of sick cars to come. They are not sure where or what time to meet up because people are meeting up at different locations.

Also it is kind of hard to get some artistic shots while on the side of a highway with cars going by. If we can figure something out that would be great.

The NY/NJ crew are meeting at the Rockaway MAll at 7 AM

We expect to join you in PA near the 476 - 80 interchange, at 8:15 AM

In short; It's one hell of a good time...

This particular run starts in NJ, and follows rte 80 across PA, and ends up in Black Forest (just outside of Lockhaven pa). It combines safe but spirited freeway driving with an equally spirited winding country road driving experience. Once at the Black forest inn everyone has a great opportunity to check out each others rides, meet and greet other members of the community, and finally get something to eat.
The driving is no less than thrilling, the members involved have proven to be first rate, and in the very least it will get you some action pics of your car, and most likely get it featured in a videa. E-FAMOUS:redspot

Nowadays they download the software right at the dealer

You bring the car in, they hook it up to the computer.............and about 10 minutes later..................you're good to go.

Quick software install.

At least, that's what they told me when they did my car.

I'm not sure if Dinan sends an actual " chip " to the installer.

Of course, if they do..........

I'm a network & hardware guy. But I can socket/soldier/de-soldier boards so "chipping" is something I can do. I work at an electronics depot for the army so if someone didnt trust my work theres plenty of engineers here to do the work for anyone if someone wants it.

I'm planning on finding a used muffler and run dual 2.5'' stainless piping with no resonators. Searching the classefieds...

I do have two glasspacks and two AA exhaust tips sitting in the garage. Anyone ever hear glasspacks on an E46? I don't want it too loud. Some guys on E46fanatics love it and others say don't do it. I wish I could hear this setup in person. If I do this it will also be the dual 2.5'' stainless piping with an H-pipe and no resonators.

I have little notes that I have ready to tape to BMW door handles if I don't get to talk to the drivers. Last night I saw a white 135i and the driver looked young. Later I saw his car in the parking lot so I taped this note to his door handle.

I listen to her. She just doe's not want to get up really early lol. But I'm up everyday at 6am, I figure why not just go. I'm gonna be up any way and I end up waking her up and she'll be up all day untill it's time to go to sleep. But I'm gonna stick behind the pack so I can get to know the roads.
