Hi all,
I have just bought a remanufactured Denso AC compressor for my 1996 840ci sport 4.4.
The thing is that the compressor looks the same as the original apart from that there are two pipe connectors where as the original has one. Should I keep one blanked and connect the single pipe? or should I swap the top plate with the original one?
pic of new AC compressor attached to help understand this issue...

The '97 540 compressor that I have downstairs only has a single port where the dual port is and the other port is at what would be the bottom left of the one you show. I should be similar to the later 840.
Do you have a picture or port arrangement of the one on the car?

Hi Terry,
Thanks for the reply, I've had another look, and the 1st port appears to be in the same/similar position 1st pic; facing the side for both compressors. The second port looks like its facing the front on the old compressor as the 2nd pic shows.
i'm thinking is it OK to bend the second pipe into position for the new compressor or should I try swapping the top plates? the bolts on the top plate of the new compressor are super tight, maybe theyre not meant to be removed?

You might want to be absolutely sure that they sent you the right compressor before attempting an install.
You shouldn't have to bend pipes to install a correct replacement compressor.

fyi i've had the compressor installed, the top plate was just swapped over and is working perfectly now. i guess the denso unit is used in many different cars with only the top plate being different.
so if anyone gets a denso compressor that has the same part no as the original, but different connectors on the top, just swap the top plate like i did!

did you keep your old one, or was that exchange.
Other wise get your old one reconditioned for spares.
