Finally got the car washed today, but thats besides the point...after gettin it all clean, there are SOOOOOO many scratches on the car it's unbelievable....it also seems that the clear coat is coming off in very small places....and also the scratches that I have show white underneath, some show silver....what do do??!?! How much for a full paint job? How much just to get the scratches painted??

For a cheap respray, figure about $1500. For a GOOD paint job $3 to 5K.

If it's that bad, do a full repaint. it's not worth piecemealing it. You may be able to get them to do a wetsand and respray of clear. Might be cheaper, but dunno...Ask around. If you're on good terms with your service writer, ask them what they recommend and why. Mine's very candid about who they use and their opinion of them (aka, yeah, it's not OEM quality, but they're the best in town...if you want a Great paint job, got to here and see them).

If you're seriously considering repaint, try this....Hey Ben...look a guinea pig!...hit an area with rubbing compound to level off the paint and take off the oxidation(you may need to do some wetsanding with 1500 or 2000 grit to take out some of the clearcoat that's flaking). Then get some clear coat and reclear an area and see how it looks. Obviously, we haven't tried this (not that desperate yet), but in theory, it should work. I'd say try it on a bottom rocker panel on the door and see how it works. If it looks OK, you just saved yourself a ton of $$$. If not, it's getting repainted anyway....

In that case what's to lose doing a small area with clear? Do a light wetsand (also known as color sanding) then spray clear over it...Just remember to take before and after pics...See what happens when you get volunteered to be a guinea pig? :D

I was thinking more of a clearcoat like an Elmer's Spray Adhesive kind of clearcoat...

No way a good paint job would cost only $3-5K. I would estimate minimum $5K and more like $6K-8K. A repaint is quite involved if you do not want overspray, etc.

Best thing is to go out to a junkyard ... buy something that is scratched and experiment on that ... that's what I did when I repainted things on my other cars ...
