Does anyone know of any good, isolated places to go camping, no more than 3 hours from Boston?

Big camp grounds are out of the question. I'm kinna thinking of just driving up and going for a hike until we find a spot in the woods to set up camp, but I'm going with a few friends next weekend, and we're in the process of searching for a good spot.

Check the established wilderness tentsides and huts in the whites.. http://www.hikethewhites.com/shelters.html has a pretty good list of them.. Sawyer Pond and Mountain pond are both pretty nice and only a bit over a mile hike to get to on pretty flat ground. Sawyer pond tends to get a few people there on the weekends while Mountain pond is bit less visited. Pretty much anyone you run into out there is cool with whatever as long as your not leaving trash, burning the forest down, etc.
