View Full Version : Any other local indy shops?
TopasBlau46 08-04-2008, 10:11 AM I had a good experience with BPG in Winchester, I think I even raved about it on the forums, but lately I can't get in touch with John as it seems he injured his back. Regardless, I need some work done and I can't wait too much longer, so I need an alternative. What are some other decent indys?

BobMurphy 08-04-2008, 06:11 PM Damon is great. Nice guy, excellent work and very honest.
m3fuz 08-04-2008, 07:51 PM I've had great experiences with German Performance Services in Cambridge.
Evergreen Dan 08-04-2008, 08:34 PM Schneller in Newbury, MA. Club racer, very experienced. http://www.machschnell.com/ He recently had some health problems, but is back to at least part time.
Also you could call Chip at Auto Engineering (formerly Autobahn East) in Lexington: http://autobahneast.net/
Both of these shops do only BMW (although Chip has a different guy who does Audi). I've heard good things about GPS in Cambridge, too. Off of these in one way or the other support the BMWCCA, too.

What's the story behind Autobahn East - why'd they change the name? Years ago that place was called Auto Engineering. I brought my first BMW there for a PPI - the place was on the verge of going under, and the lone mechanic I think lived in a room up above the garage. It was sketchy to say the least :)
Why did Autobahn change the name back to Auto Engineering?
TopasBlau46 08-04-2008, 11:49 PM Thanks for all the recommendations guys, I'll send out emails/call like nuts tomorrow and see who gives the best offer.

Why did Autobahn change the name back to Auto Engineering?
Autobahn itself is located in metro-west (Natick, maybe?). They opened a second locataion where the pre-existing Auto Engineering was. (Not sure what the story was with their closing.) They named their new location Autobahn East. A bit later, they realized that there were lots of Auto Engineering customers who were expecting the old shop at that location, so they changed it back. So the current business is completely distinct from the original business.
The shop is very, very clean. Lots of lifts. Dyno. My only gripe is that they are picky about letting customers in the shop itself, but this is pretty common these days.
Free candy in the waiting room. :shifty (Too fat already.)

You might consider things other the price in determining "best." Just a thought.

Wasn't I -- I was on my road bike yesterday ;-) My M Coupe is Evergreen -- a, uh, rare color, highly valued by few; highly loathed by many.
Get your car to the track with the Boston Chapter, and you'll see a bunch of Z3 Coupes. :redspot

It was evergreen! And the person driving looked like a "dan" :lol.
But yea, I see more ricer and rich snob type of BMW drivers than enthusiasts around here anyways :rolleyes
