The window in my dads X5 fell off its track and then continued to fall all the way into the door. And neither of us can seem to grab it and pull it back onto the track. The motor still works, I can hear it going.

My question is, do I need to take off the door panel to get it back up? :dunno
If I do how is the door panel held on? I can only see one screw. Is it just that screw and a bunch of clips?

Any help would be appreciated. Especially pics on where the screw/clip locations are for when/if I need to pull the door panel.

On a side note, after the window fell off the track, it started to rain. :(

EDIT: Oh, and its the rear passenger side door, if that makes a difference.

Sounds like a bad window regulator. The motor is good, but when the reg. goes bad, the window just drops (a common issue with the E53. It is an E53, right?). I had one go out on me at about 90mph, with my son in the X.
You do hafta take the door panel off, and replace the reg. (you may not want BMW to do it, as they will charge you for a kidney). If you have some skills with repairs, you can DIY. I did not; I had my indy shop tackle it. Make sure that the moisture shroud it not ripped or left out after the repair, as this will cause water to seep into the interior whenever it rains or you wash the whip.

Yes, its an E53. I do have a friend who is a mechanic who offord to fix it if it was just the regulator or off the track, but when I took it to him he tested the motor and said (and I agreed) that it sounded like broken glass churning around inside the door.
We decided it best be left the dealer if it is broken. My dad needs a car, i.e. a loaner, so we'll probably take it there.

Well when his slid down It started to rain, and we were on our way to a concert, and we wanted to find free parking on the street, but instead we wen an paid to park in a garage.
