View Full Version : MA Rejection Sticker question
GarrettSR5 08-01-2008, 08:26 PM I got a Rejection sticker when I went to get my car inspected cause of the tires and no reverse lights. The sticker says it expires in 2009, how long can I drive on it until I have to pay to get it reinspected? 60 days, 30 days? Thanks.
///M3Augy 08-01-2008, 08:41 PM I think its 30 days.
axthrower 08-01-2008, 09:24 PM 60 days for a emission rejection, Technically not supposed to drive on a safty rejection sticker at all until the issues have been fixed if I recall correctly
lotusTT 08-01-2008, 09:39 PM Yep, for a safety inspection, you can't legally drive the car at all. You can get re-inspected at the place that failed you within 60 days and the 2nd inspection is free.
GarrettSR5 08-02-2008, 01:29 AM Well it says S & E/S on the sticker.
PixMan 08-02-2008, 01:33 AM Your tires are the "S" problem, get new ones ASAP. The "E" would only be valid if it failed emissions, but it's on there because by law and inspection station cannot run the emissions test until after it passes the safety inspection.
GarrettSR5 08-02-2008, 01:48 AM I went to a tire shop and told them the car failed cause of the tires and they were really surprised about it. So can I go to another inspector and still be free.99 or I gotta go to the same one?
toplezz328 08-02-2008, 03:28 AM same one
edirtyfour 08-02-2008, 03:57 AM You're not supposed to drive it at all due to failing for safety. I got a rejection sticker due to a dime sized hole right befhind the driver's side door of my F-150 when I had it... inspector told me I had 30 days, cop pulled me over and issued me a ticket.
PixMan 08-02-2008, 08:21 AM You *can* go to another station to try and pass with the tires you have, but you would have to pay the $29 again. Your gamble.
These inspections are getting ridiculous. They can (and often do) fail you if you have even a small crack in a taillight lens, or a marker light that doesn't work. According to a guy who inspected my '88, "If it came on the car from the factory, is has to work and be defect free."
yod88 08-02-2008, 09:14 AM 60 days to fix with everything but safety
with safety you need to do immediate fix..asap, you're just asking cops to pull you over with a rejection sticker..although reverse lights arent hard to fix and tire is just a matter of how much you have to spend..
have to go to the same shop if you dont want to pay another 29

Agreed my old audi 4000csq failed for a taillight assy that was decoration there were no bulbs in it as it was in the plate surround. I complained to the magistrate and it was settled.
For old cars the push is to get them off the road hence why so strict.
Dub-Dub 08-04-2008, 04:49 PM Any of you ever read magazines from England? Their inspection is so crazy complicated. It is very tough. You can fail for many things, to the point that people will note how long until it has to be reinspected in their want ads (annual or biannual, not upon reregistering)!
wmb0000 08-04-2008, 05:00 PM Hmm .. I recently got my inspection sticker.
I went to a gas station and the guy look at my tires and said he would fail me with the tires and told me I could try another station and they might pass me. So I went to another shop and they did not even check my tires and pass me :)
So it's all depend on where you went, some are easier than others
axthrower 08-04-2008, 05:48 PM Ask them if they offer the more expensive inspection that all cars are guaranteed to pass
savage217 08-04-2008, 07:24 PM Just an FYI, I guess August first OBDI cars noi longer need to pass emissions:redspot:evil2:alright
axthrower 08-04-2008, 07:41 PM visual inspection only.. ie has to look like their are cats..

Gutted cats ftw, not that I have that.
yod88 08-04-2008, 09:21 PM Gutted cats ftw, not that I have that.
...yet :stickoutt
Dub-Dub 08-11-2008, 11:54 AM I think it may be October, but yes it's true!
GarrettSR5 08-11-2008, 01:55 PM They will throw a pre 96 (96 was first year of mandatory OBD II) on the dyno and the computer will tell them if it needs to be sniffed.

If it took you three stations to find someone who would pass your tires, I think the inspection sticker is the least of your worries. Tires are kinda important.
TopasBlau46 08-12-2008, 09:53 PM You can challenge the inspection place by asking the magistrate to perform the inspection, then your inspection is free and paid for by the shop, and then are investigated to ensure they're doing their job correctly.
