Treepusher 07-30-2008, 11:54 AM The figure ought to be in your owner's manual, or you can look it up on the BMW website. My wife's X3 takes about 1000 lbs, at least according to the manual. I would presume the X5 would be similar, but the load must be distributed. RabidChimp 07-30-2008, 12:37 PM Doing the dead trunk hooker mod x10? Thats messed up but did make me laugh hard. OP BMW Fast facts does not say how much you can safely place in the cargo area. I would not recommend putting too much weight on the rear seats. Asking about dead trunk hookers is always helpful, I'm still trying to get rid of mine. :rolleyes To help you out though, with backseats down you could probably (from what I've read) put 800lbs of pavers in there. If you extend that out to the tailgate then you could up it to 1,200lbs. The tailgate can handle 400lbs balanced by itself, and then the interior can hold up to 4x the average size person. You shouldn't have to worry too much as the rear end is capable of towing up to 6,000lbs on the hitch. Although the X5 can tow a 6,000 pound trailer, you certainly can not put 6,000 pounds on the hitch. A typical trailer setup has 10% of the weight of the loaded trailer on the tongue, so 600 lbs would be your max on the hitch. What you'll want to do is Google "X5 curb weight" to find out how much the puppy weighs by itself... then divide that number by 2 (since the weight distribution is nearly 50/50) and then subtract the rear Gross Vehicle Weight on the sticker on the driver's door. (3307 pounds on the X5 I just went and looked at). So if the whole vehicle weighs, say, 4700 pounds... then about 2300 pounds are already on the rear axle and you can add 1000 pounds to the rear of the vehicle to arrive at the Max Gross Vehicle Weight for the rear. Although, I wouldn't go that high. I'd keep it around 800 or less. dkl 07-31-2008, 01:26 AM I just checked my door jam sticker. GVW is 6008 lb (2712 lb front, 3307 lb rear). Don't ask me why the two numbers don't add up to 6008 lb, but that's what is on the sticker. The curb weight of the X5 is typically between ~4700 lb to ~5000 lb depending on options and engine size. So Critter7r is absolutely right on...you can safely load about 800 lb to 1000 lb or so, but I wouldn't place that entire load over just the rear axle. |
