I posted in the e46 section...but...uh....yeah.

Did my pads and rotors last night. The rear rotors were a whore to get off - I think they were both stuck on the e-brake shoes (the e-brake WAS disengaged). Finally got them off, but now I'm getting a grinding sound from the rear. I dicked around a little with the e-brake while going about 30 to try and get it to settle, but no luck so far. Do I need to manually go in and adjust it with the little screw?

Yes. Most likely the drum surface on the old brakes got a little worn over time, and if they've been adjusted in the past, you're going to have to back the brake shoes off a little.

There should be a DIY on E Brake adjustment somewhere. But here's a summary:

1. Remove cable tension inside the car by loosening the locknuts on each parking brake cable. They're probably hidden behind the boot.
2. With the rear of the car in the air, use the adjusters on each axle to immobilize each wheel, then back each adjuster off ~8 clicks
3. Get in the car, pull up the e-brake handle 4-5 clicks, then tighten each locknut until each wheel is immobilized
4. Put the e-brake handle back down and verify that the rear wheels move freely without dragging

fredk ftw.

Also, to remove old rotors, go to autozone beforehand and rent one of their massive three jaw pullers. It's like the 5-ton version or something and has a spread of about a foot. Tighten that up until your afraid the entire thing is going to explode in your face and then take a mallet to the rotor face. Thing should pop right off, just watch your feet.
