Ok, so a couple of weeks ago, I notice that I've got these HUGE round white chalkish stains on ALL over my car..I figure Ok, we haven't had much rain...should just be normal, get it off ASAP, but don't run to the wash now....

Anyway, next day (after an afternoon rainshower or two), I wash the car...hmmm, what are those round dry spots on my car as I'm applying soap and water....run the hand over it, why's my car grabbing at me....note: my car gets waxed about ever 2-3 weeks.
Dry her off and SOB, WTH are those white rings....Ok, deep breath...hit it with S100 SEC....ok, little better. Hey, I'll try this new stuff I just got....Ben swears by it....so I break out the AIO. humdeedum....WTH, they're still there....grrr, fine, SMR next weekend.....

We've had rain every day since, you'd think that would keep those nice circles off....well, I get home late last Wed....walk out to the mailbox and as I'm walking in reading the latest copy of Bimmer...why am I getting wet in the MIDDLE of my parking space....Oh, the sprinklers are on...and they're hitting my entire car even though I'm parked in the middle of 3 spaces...grumble, grumble....it rains that night (light sprinkle) and sure enough the next morning...the white spots are back...Call up the association office - "Yes, Mr. 9000, someone else in your neighborhood called in the same complaint...our irrigation person is sick today, but for now just park further away from the sprinklers..." Of course this is Friday at lunch when I get their call and naturally they only have voice mail in the office grumble grumble...

So today, enough playing with the light stuff....where's the Rubbing compound...that'll show those evil spots...woohoo, my baby's shiny again....I didn't need all that clear :-). SG her and I've got some time on my hands while I'm waiting for it to dry in 100% humidity.

Hmmmm....lets look at the SO's car...it's a 99 Yota Camry...boy...those spots are WORSE than on mine...I can see this map of the world in the hood....Rubbing compound doesn't take all of it out! Keep in mind I used DP's PS about 2 months ago on the car...It's only the hood...grumble grumble...fine another pass with compound and wax her...it's 7:30...I'll look at baby and Anne tomorrow.

Moral of the story....just because you haven't had an issue with water sprinklers, don't assume that it's safe...get it off the car that morning! I'm guessing that either someone broke a water pipe upstream of me or they recently changed what they're doing on irrigation...hmmmm, I wonder if they'll compensate me to detail the cars :devillook

Yeah, unfortunately I've found AIO doesn't really take off water spots too well. In any event, I usually prepare the paint with something else (a 3M product in most cases) before I AIO so it's not a big deal to me.

Sorry about that situation, though. I've had that problem before and it's no fun. I'm very glad I have a garage to put my baby in every night...

Try out the Zymol HD Cleanse. This is one of the better paint preps I have tried. I have never had to try it on water spots (luckily as I have seen some that are a pain to remove) but it gets great reviews from me, and I think Ben would trust my opinion on this. Hell I hope he would.

Eh, don't trust much of what this Joe guy says. He's shady ;).

Seriously though I've never honestly used Zymöl HD Cleanse. I don't like spending my money on Zymöl products because they're so expensive...maybe Joe has an extra bottle he'll throw me...:)...

actually, haha, I don't even have any for myelf right now. I need to go get some more. I like some of the Pinnacle products, but I once did a side by side with these two products and I was honestly expecting the PPCL to perform better than the HD. I was mistaken as i saw better results from the HD Cleanse. The prices are a bit of a downer, but oh well, detailing nuts like us live with it. Oh the vehicle I tested it on was black and see lots of miles each week from the sales rep that drives it.

Have you tried HD Cleanse head to head with anything like SEC or GEPC? or hell.. Megs Swirl Free?

I have tried lots of products head to head. Umm, unfortunatley, i am not sure what products you were pointing at. I am use to use the Autopia acronyms.

In general, I have used so many products that it is easy to lose track of them sometimes. Lots of testing for research reasons. Again I do hold a slightly biased opinion, but I admit that at least. And HD Cleanse is recommended because it is a good product and completely against my bias, haha.

Sorry... P21S Gloss Enhancing Paint Cleanser (GEPC) or S100 Shine Enhancing Cleanser (SEC). Also, Meguiars Swirl Free Polish.

You sound like an autopian with all your testing/comparisons... do you use the boards there at all?

Yep, that's why I try to not voice my opinion on things sometimes. I use lots of products for testing and some that I just like using on vehicels I detail for people. haha, I forgot about the ps21 stuff. I forgot that they had paint cleaners, because, well, I have never used those two products.
