I'm looking at purchasing a 1.8T GTI or Golf and I was wondering if anyone here has ever raced one or driven one? I'm planning on chipping, adding a 3" d-pipe, suspension, and lightening up the car in a few ways. I'm hopin for mid 6's 0-60. I'm just wondering if anyone here has any kill stories about Golfs/GTI's and how the car did compared to yours. Thanks.

Lost to a GTI 5sp 2.8/2.5 (?) not to long ago. This car had EVERY mod a VW GTI can have outside of turbo, beat me by 2 cars. I have a 93' 325is w/ CAIS & Automatic and thats it. On the freeway we where side by side going...WAY to fast :)

Nice guy glad hes my friend, he didnt rub it in to much because everyone expected him to beat me bye alot more. But I can tell you my car gets more looks than his at race time.

I lost but wasnt upset about it. Lets face it once you put a CAIS, Chip & exaust what more is there to do to your engine for a cost effective increase in power? From what I can tell not much without looking at Serious $$$$$$. If I'm missing something PLEASE tell me!

I guess we own cars that are great accross the board. Its like our cars get a B+ all the way around. Not the fastest (never will be), some other cars corner better (not to many), Not the cheapest to fix (Dont break down to often) but none do "everything" quite as well as ours.

My friend has a '98 VR6 with chip & borla exhaust and the suspension done up. Haven't raced him side-to-side, but we've traded off and done some sop comparos, when my M3 was all stock.

Speed-wise it was pretty good, acceleration reminding me of the M3, but not quite as authoritative. Hard to compare FWD and RWD off the line once you start to get wheelspin...
