View Full Version : HI: Paintless ding/dent removal session

Aloha guys,

I sort of ran this by Beastmaster once or twice, but I am trying to gauge any interest in having a paintless dent removal session at the Tech night for Aloha 500 (early-mid July). I managed to find someone who I believe to be the best dent removal guy in the state and I thought it would be cool/convenient to have him "do his thing" at a club meeting. He does all the damage removal on JNs Audi, Ferraris and Lamborghinis as well as their more mundane offerings.

Mike generally charges $75 a panel, but has always been willing to do my cars for $125 or so, removing every mark I can find. His work is nothing short of a miracle IMO.

Depending on the size of the job he can probably do 3 or so cars in that evening. If you are interested please post and I will book him for that evening. Of course this in pending having no objections by Voytek, the Club and Mike himself.

Price negotiation will be between you and Mike of course.

I am not benefitting in any way, just trying to help out Mike and the Club.

John

Sounds good, but I don't know if Voytek will let us stay at his place that long. I can always ask. Do you have another venue that may be possible? Maybe a well lit parking garage?

Are you going to get another SN? Maybe IslandM20?;)

If this session is a go, I am definately in.

John, I would be interested in doing this also.

I'd be interested also, thanks.

Ok sounds good. I think you are all Mike can accomodate. Once we get the tech session date locked down I will let Mike know. I will also need to know if this is all OK with Voytek of course. I will update the thread when the date gets closer.

No name change yet Brian :) I remember E30 325s being a bit quicker, but its been a while...the car is great though, really in top shape. I've put in about 12 hours of detailing already.

Can you PM me some contact info for Derek Rhodes, I remeber him saying he was looking for a set of 14" bottlecaps. Maybe if I can get some cash for these I can spring for those 15" AC Schnitzers on sale at BavAuto..

I thought IslandS52 would have another SN like Mstang5.0..he he

I just had my whole driver's door painted due to another (the last ) bike falling on the door. Anyone need a broken bike?

Anyone still interested in a DIY brake fluid/pad change, and a possible "Sport Mode" activation?
I know ZZZING is interested in doing his brakes.

I'm leaving in about 60 min to attend a graduation, then off to Vega$ for four days. I plan on having the DIY at my home, (got the boss' okay) not a very large garage (two car) but we could still do some DIY's, have some pupu's and drinks (non alch) b4 the DIY (alch) after DIY if anyone wants to attend.
Besides, I COULD USE THE HELP! he he

I'm looking at June 22nd or July 12th, if I can wait that long.

Seven more weeks or 49 days, and then it's time to test your brakes!

:checkered

I'll check back before I leave today, and when I get back.

The Beastmaster
06-07-2003, 11:53 PM
Woody, go for the earlier date. I'll need to have a tech session @ 2 weeks from the event date. That way, we'll have time to do repairs if necessary.

Let me know about your DIY, I can come over and supervise.;) We could probably work in the garage and in the driveway on two cars simultaneously. Need jack stands & a jack?

IslandS62
06-08-2003, 04:10 AM
ZZZING mentioned this to me last Tuesday. I'm up for it also. I think I might need to install some anti-squeal compound on the fronts.

BTW Thrills... I looked under the house and I do have a set of Dunlop 8080s in 17" (stock M Roadster sizes). If you want them to run the Aloha 500 on, or as spares let me know. I have no use for them.

thrlls,
Count me in on the brake pad change. My brake sensor light just went on. I might want to replace that too. Keep in mind I'm not a DIY sort of guy.:D

Gerald

IslandS62
06-09-2003, 03:17 PM
Gerald, if your brake sensor light came on you need to replace both sensors on the car 1 driver side front, 1 passeger side rear) . Remember to buy those with your pads.

GcD
06-11-2003, 03:28 PM
John, I am just planning on changing out the fronts. I had someone do the the rear pads and sensor about a year ago. Do I still need to buy the rear sensor to reset the light?

IslandS62
06-11-2003, 04:59 PM
I've always heard that both needed to be changed simultaneously, but it's just a wire with a metal contact on the end. It must be fine just to change the front. Maybe others can clarify

The Beastmaster
06-11-2003, 05:35 PM
I believe you can change them as needed. As you get closer to the end of the pad life, the sensor gets closer to the rotor and the covering will wear away. This is what triggers the brake lining light to go on.

Alright, the 22nd it will be.
My driveway has a slope, but we could get two vehicles in the garage at the same time.

Beastmaster: I have a 3.5 ton jack and four stands, but if you can bring more it would help to speed things up.
How does 8:00 AM sound to everyone?
I hope that is not too early for you Beastmaster!
We have three vehicles to work on, so it should be a good DIY session.
I'm not too sure of all the tools we will need, but I do have a good selection of hand tools...sorry, no air here.

pound4lb: Don't worry, I'm not much of a DIY guy either, but that is the whole purpose of a DIY session. But you will have to do the work, as others supervise. It's a learning, have fun, get to know others kind of a session.

IslandS52: How is the grip on those Dunlop 8080's?
Are they 225 & 245?
Here is the BIG ??? do they come with rims..LOL

Could everyone confirm on the time 8:00 AM
And I'll start setting things up the day before.

Is that a Sunday? I got church early in the morning.

I can bring 4 jackstands. Got air ratchet and socket, but can't bring my 5hp compressor over. Anyone got a small compressor? Or I may purchase a small one.

Gene V
06-12-2003, 01:09 AM
If you just need something to remove wheels, a breaker bar and a cordless drill works great, or I have an electric impact wrench that you can borrow...only good for wheel lug removal and not lug replacement, as the torque cannot be adjusted...

Gene

06-12-2003, 12:08 PM
Yes Beastmaster, it's Sunday. Just come when you're done. I'm trying to see if I can do it on Sat. 21st.

Hey Gene, you coming?

Gottah go work!!!

The Beastmaster
06-12-2003, 01:08 PM
Electric impact wrench? Hmmm, I have an air impact. Looked at compressors last night and they are pretty affordable. Don't know if I need the small 2 gallon, 4 gallon pancake or a 8 gallon 2.5hp portable.

Gene V
06-12-2003, 05:07 PM
Brian...Yes, electric impact wrench, works similar to your air impact except you plug into 110 outlet, then toggle trigger for forward or reverse, and it generates 240 ft/lbs of non-adjustable torque...from Harbor Freight...

Woody...don't knowif I can make it, don't have my Sunday work schedule for July yet...

The Beastmaster
06-12-2003, 05:42 PM
Dang! I went to Home Depot last night to check out compressors and saw how cheap the tools have gotten.

Impact wrench $49 Husky and $29 Campbell Hausfield.

Geez, my Milwaukee was $75 20 years ago!

IslandS62
06-12-2003, 08:11 PM
They have a set of air tools at Costco too. Don't know if they are any good but Costco return policy is so open its like a lifetime warranty. Seemed pretty complete.

I should be able to make it in the 22nd.

Thrills: Tires are stock 17" 225 and 245. Sorry the set with rims will cost you a little more $$$.

The Beastmaster
06-12-2003, 08:30 PM
How much for the tires? I probably need to replace the tires on the old 6er. I actually need 235/45 and 255/40, but those Dunlops would do. And I guess I'll buy a compressor and bring it over. Since my car is small, can you pick it up at my house, John?

I'm grumpy cause somebody just sniped me on EBay! Grrrrrr!

thrlls
06-13-2003, 01:16 AM
IslandS52....How much, and what rims?

I'm still trying for the 21st if that is a better date for most of you. Not positive I can make that date though.
Let me know which is a better date, and I'll press for the 21st.

Brian - cheer up dude, remember YOU ARE the Beastmaster Keeper of the Gate.....arrrrg

Cheer up? That bugger sniped me in the last 10 seconds! I got one bid in but it wasn't high enough! I really need that SI board for my 6er.

thrlls
06-13-2003, 10:54 PM
IslandS52 - I have some anti - squeal if you didn't get any yet.

So what day is good for you guys the 21st or 22nd?

06-14-2003, 12:43 AM
Alright, I picked up a new compressor today and guess what? My tools are shot! I guess I'll just get a new impact wrench and ratchet!

thrlls
06-14-2003, 01:16 AM
Elbow grease man, elbow grease!
Excuses, excuses! Any reason to buy more tools.....ARRRGG
Maybe I should go look for a compressor also....hmmm father's day!

How tight can those nuts be?
I'm more concerned about staying cool, it gets hot here in the valley.....

The Beastmaster
06-14-2003, 08:12 PM
Figured you guys might need some extra oomph! so I picked up a whole new set of pneumatic tools; impact wrench, ratchet, grinder, hammer and cutter. Now we can disassemble the brakes and the car at the same time!

The Beastmaster
06-15-2003, 02:29 AM
I guess the next tool purchase will have to be one of those 35 lb aluminum racing jacks!

thrlls
06-15-2003, 02:42 AM
Hey Beastmaster, are you bring all your NEW tools in your Mini?
How far away are you? I could come by the night before and pick them up if you are close enough.

So what day is good for you?
21st or 22nd????

Hey Gene - I noticed you said you don't have your July Sunday schedule yet, this DIY is for this month, June.

I'm still trying to get a feel which day would be better for everyone. 21 or 22 Sat. or Sun.

going fast only to use my brakes!

The Beastmaster
06-15-2003, 08:09 AM
I can make it on any day. I'll bring the 750il to carry the stuff. It could fit in the MINI, but I figure I'll get dirty and I don't want to mess up the MINI.

Gene V
06-15-2003, 01:45 PM
Woody,

Not a good weekend for me, helping Ken install his new suspension and cleaning out my carport prior to having the house painted.

Don't need brakes anyway, was just offering the use of my electric impact wrench...looks like Brian has everthing covered...

IslandS62
06-17-2003, 04:54 AM

Okay guys, let's have the DIY on Sunday the 22nd.

I'll e-mail you two with my address. I guess Pound4lb is not coming, he hasn't responded.

ZZZing just got back from the mainland, and I'm waiting for his reply.

So it may just be the three of us Moe, Larry, Joe....lol

Check your e-mail

I'll definitely show up at the DIY day, can someone shoot me a PM about a week before the event? I'll forget for sure. :az:

Turbo order has been cancelled as AA's customer service is less than optimal. Please do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.

Also a 3.2 with forced induction is not legal in SM, which is something I had previously overlooked.

Hopefully, I'll be able to bring my M3 to the DIY day, if it's not broken at that particular point in time. :(

The DIY session is THIS Sunday in Hawaii Kai at Woody's house.

Let me know what kind of tools will be needed. I have my compressor, air tools, torque wrench, open ends, sockets, jack stands, jack...

thrlls

All of the above. If we are going to use the compressor, I don't have any air tools. I do have a torque wrench, multiple size box, open end wrenchs (standard and metric) as well as a jack/stands. I only have four stands if we do two cars at once we will need more.

Yeah, I had to Fling the Spring, so the A - 500 I must attend.

I'll be ready at the next one also. I went home last night and noticed a small dimple on my hood. Your eye dis-ease is becoming contagious! I am no longer at ease with my car, now that these dimples come out at me.
The repair guy has an eagle eye, I couldn't see anything on my trunk.....are you sure he said he seen one there, or are who trying to make me go :jump3:

Just a suggestion IslandS52, when you become President in January, and you have a Tech session at Voytek's, try to have the tech part done before the questions.. :D

Beastmaster is doing a fine job as president. I still think we should pursue changing the bylaws and making it a lifelong appointment. We can change the title from President to King of BMWs or something :)

I'm glad that the paintless dent removal guy worked out for members. I was a little ticked off that the guy came so late, but it worked out in the end. Mike is something of an odd character, but there is no denying his skill. I have watched him work and talked with him several times about his techniques and I think the end result is pretty amazing. He has told me that he would not mind doing this for us at future tech sessions, so I will try and book him as a regular thing for the club. I just want to make sure we have enough business for him to make it worth his while.

I agree on the tech cars and then do the questions and answer session with Alf. Last time we did it, Alf had had a few Warsteiners and he was actually more brief and concise because of it. I have no idea what he found to talk about for 2 hours!

I don't know what he talked about either. Actually none of us here do since we were all outside.

That dent guy scared the crap out of me when he worked on Matt's car. The dent looked worse and worse everytime he worked on it. Then......there was no dent! AMAZING!

Move me from President to King? I don't know about that. I really think Woody or John would make fine officers. Remember it is a 2 year job. Then the VP usually gets elected as President.

BTW, where was Reid?
