So i just finally got my crappy dodge caravan registered here in cali. I got the smog check, they then verified it at the DMV and then just gave them the paper work and i am done.
My question is... is there no "inspection" done on the car? I am from northern Virginia, and every year or so, we would have to get the car inspected, which includes emissions testing but also checked the safty of the car (blinkers, lights, breaks, air bags, etc)
Do i have to go back anytime in the future to get my car checked out again? Sorry if this seems like basic stuff, but im just a little fuzzy here, thanks.

Just every other year for smog.
Other than that California drivers run their cars into the ground....

Wow. What a weird stance to take... pretty much just worrying about the pollution...
So what this means for us is that we can pretty much modify the hell out of them as long as we pass smog?

yeh but california has some pretty strict smog rules so be careful with the mods. (ie for headers all smog places need the carb#, some cams don't comply with smog regulations, etc.)

Oh, i tottaly understand the strict laws on the emissions... but for the most part you can register a car thats .2" off the ground, with blinding HIDs and a broken windshield as long as it has no fault codes and has clean emissions.
thats pretty sweet.

the local law enforcement will be the ones who hassle you about a broken windshield, illegal lights, or being too low, instead of a regular inspection.
just so you know.
