Well, down south I think I could have strolled into Walmart with 20 bucks, an ID from the local hog pen, a 40 in a paper bag, and walked out with a passport.

Where do I gotta go up here? US Post Office I assume? Does anyone have a hook-up on getting one expedited?

I want to go down to Bermuda for a golf tournament in early December.

There shouldn't be any problem getting one within that timeframe. My brother-in-law got his at the post office and had it within about 60 days. I think you can pay extra though and have it expedited.

Ah, alright. I assumed it was a longer process. I had down to a post office in Providence this week sometime

I think you might need to bring passport photos to the Post office though... Not sure... Mine's still good to 2012...

http://iafdb.travel.state.gov

That will tell you where to apply and has links to the application and the application requirements.

Go to a Fedex/Kinkos, CVS or some such that takes passport photos. You'll need 2.

go to http://travel.state.gov to retrieve a passport application.

bring it all to your local post office, along with proof of citizenship- birth certificate (will get mailed back to you after your application is processed), and proof of identity- driver's license.

Turn around time is a few weeks. You can get it expedited if you're in a hurry.

A visa is only needed for US citizens if you're staying for +90 days.

Apply at the post office. You fill out a form, pay the $75 or whatever the fee is, and if you need a photo, they can do it there as well for $20. Just bring your License and Birth Certificate. It only takes 4 weeks.

It used to be longer, but they have improved the process. I am pretty sure it's guaranteed by 4 weeks. No need to expedite it if you are going in Dec.

I needed mine for August 10th, and I did it about a month ago, and I got it within plenty of time.

I didn't read any of the above posts so I'm not sure if this was already posted but I had a situation a few years back with a death in the family and I went to the Passport Headquarters downtown (right next to bank north). Me and my sister had them in 3 days. If you go down there with some bull shit story I'm sure you can get it expedited. Plus you are dealing with them directly.

Just a thought.

you can get one in 2 weeks if you pay an extra fee... i think it's like another $80, i could be wrong. but they do have an expedited process...

you an also get one same day if you go to a processing center and have a ticket in hand for departure the next day.

I also need to do this. They're picky too because I had the whole form filled out and the photo attached and they wouldn't accept it because the photo i printed out was like 1mm too small.
