TIA tpstaples 07-22-2008, 12:55 PM i rolled my fenders with the claw of a hammer. I tried a baseball bat, i tried a the handle of a hammer, tried a pipe... and found that using the claw of my hammer and prying off the tire worked great. Though, I also made sure to use a razor blade and cut a line in the paint before i did it so that if the paint cracked it didn't crack up into the visible area on the car. hamlerda 07-22-2008, 04:52 PM If you want your fenders rolled (correctly) PM Dave (dave96dcm) he is the best. tb0ne 07-22-2008, 05:12 PM i rolled my fenders with the claw of a hammer. Wait... ....ugh nevermind hamlerda 07-22-2008, 05:26 PM Wait... ....ugh nevermind You don't even want to know how I rolled my fenders :evil2 Give the guy a break. :D MightyY 07-22-2008, 09:25 PM Dave used a bit of your rolling method on car my last night, Dan. I couldn't watch. tpstaples 07-27-2008, 05:14 PM yea.. rolling my fenders with a hammer probably isn't the "BEST" idea and obviously if you have access to an actual fender roller it's far better... but i'm some respects i'm a hack.. Plus, i'm also a Jeep guy.. and us jeep guys do everything with hammers, pry bars and beer. :-) It worked and that's the point right? As long as you do it slowly, and with love... it comes out alright. You cant even tell i rolled my fenders.. dont knock it till you try it man. dont i at least get points for inventiveness? E30SPDFRK 07-28-2008, 01:12 AM Why did you even need to roll/claw your fenders with a ride height like that :rolleyes? FredK 07-28-2008, 09:03 AM Haha, calm down, guys. He was slowly bending a metal lip that is invisible from the exterior of the car. Who cares if he used an aluminum bat or the claw portion of a claw hammer? As long as the metal was rustproofed, I see no problems with this approach, as long as you don't push the boundaries of the fender rolling by trying to roll the lips flat. tpstaples 07-28-2008, 11:09 AM :-) thanks fred.. haha.. I think i have too much travel in my stock shocks so when i hit a bump it rubbed. Ideally i would change out the shocks to something tighter and probably wouldn't have an issue. But, for now, i just did a slight roll on the fenders and was good to go. Like i said... a hack. And yes fred.. you're exactly right about that lip that i was bending... tb0ne 07-28-2008, 11:10 AM FredK to the rescue! lotusTT 07-28-2008, 11:53 AM Though, I also made sure to use a razor blade and cut a line in the paint before i did it so that if the paint cracked it didn't crack up into the visible area on the car. Using a hammer or bat is fine, but the point is to roll the fender WITHOUT cracking or cutting the paint. Unless you reseal it after doing this, you're just asking for rust problems and more chipping paint. tpstaples 07-28-2008, 02:54 PM well hell.. i just cant win... F me lotusTT 07-28-2008, 03:06 PM well hell.. i just cant win... F me Its your car man, do whatever you want to it. I'm just pointing out there is a reason people pay for this service to be done professionally. If you're not super anal about your paint, then your method is by far cheaper and easier, but its not for everyone. |
