I have a brand new airbag steering wheel for sale.

Not anymore. Sold meanwhile

It is for cars from 09/1994 onwards and complete with all parts illustrated below or here:
http://bmwfans.info/original/E31/Cou/850Ci-M73/ECE/L/A/1996/02/mg-32/ill-32_0705/

If you buy it from the dealer the cost is about US$1.300,-
I would sell it for half the price ($650,-) shipped to your door.

As mentioned above: brand new and never mounted so far

correct. It's ready to be bolted on. I haven't tested the airbag though :D

Incidentally, it can be mounted to earlier (pre-94) cars as well. It is something I highly suggest for anyone with the (IMHO very ugly) 4 spoke solid black steering wheel of the earlier cars.

How to retrofit to early cars: http://home.earthlink.net/~frankie66/cars/diy/E36_steeringwheel.html

The same procedure may even work for E24s! If I didn't already have the sport wheel in my E31, and a Momo in my E24; I would seriously consider it.

Short version of my post: IT WILL FIT ALL E31s!

Wolf, Good luck with the sale! :buttrock

Incidentally, here are the part numbers for the button assemblies for its sister wheel (in case you want to splice in steering wheel controls as well...on my to do list): 61318375240 & 61318375395

I need a few for the wheels below, They're normally cheaper and available more often in your neck of the woods, Please keep me in mind for atlease one if you stumble across a extra, Pics show the ACS wheel with a bag in it, I need another, May be 2 of them. The Multifuntion bags which looks the same want work, I have those already, Thanks!

@ 8eights
Deals on new parts with the current exchange rate?? I highly doubt it. If you'd live in OZ I'd say YES because our friends over there are being ripped off by BMW, but I think US prices are quite compatible to ours here in Germany.

Cheers

Hmm, this is NOT factory "brand new" and I got all excited for nothing
:-( You outta say this is a refurbished steering wheel as the pictures shows. This is not different than what I got from this guy for a much more competitive price... I would pay $600 for a factory brand new one to be honest but not for a refurbished.... But that's just me :-) No offense toward you........

Here is mine...

so how do you tell it is refurbished? I bought it as a brand new one and looking at it it definitely looks like brand new. But you have a nice one anyway so you don't need to buy it :)

I agree with Ethan on this one. It's a refurbished wheel. Why?

• It's a "Sports Steering Wheel". It's not an "M-Technik" wheel (there are no thumb rests), so the M-colored stitching is definitely not original.
• The "Sports Steering Wheel" never came with perforated leather as an option as far as I know.

Does that make it a bad wheel? No... It's a very nice upgrade over the dated 4-spoke wheel. The M-stitching and perforated leather give it an edge over the original wheel. Judging from the looks of the stitching and leather it seems the wheel was refurbished by the same person Ethan bought his wheel from (and many other BMW owners did). It's a very nice wheel with all new leather, but it can be found at eBay for much less than you ask.

The Multifunction steering wheel looks the same but it's not, I have one Brand new if you want it!---------) Serious!!! If you try and cut those controls into it, you will have a wheel that looks just like that! The MF wheel is molded different to support those controls and the wiring paths they use, The Air Bag is also different, Ask me how i know.

I agree, a very nice wheel. But it upsets me that someone sold it to me as brand new for pretty much exactly the price I'm asking now. I checked the auction and it indeed looks pretty much identical and this guy is having some very nice wheels for other Bimmers as well.

So what is a fair price (delivered) in your guys opinion? I have no use for this wheel since my E24s don't have an airbag and my "airbag" cars are E34.

Offers are welcome.

You know, it might fit on your E34 as well. I would say if selling fails, try it using the method on the site I linked.

Revtor, looking back at my post: Do you think the button assembles can be retrofitted on such a wheel? :shiftyShort answer: No.

Long answer: You cannot mount the buttons on it. This wheel and its multifunction brother look identical, but it's not the same wheel. Only the multifunction version takes the buttons.

Another problem is with the slipring. The slipring of the wheel discussed in this thread only handles the airbag and horn. For multifunction buttons you'll need a slipring from a multifunction wheel. But these sliprings are incompatible with the E31 (although they can be modified - ask martin from the German/Swiss E31 community - he's an expert in this field).

[edit] Damn, 8eights beat me with his reply ;)

Is the wheel complete with slipring and airbag? Also, is it the "OE" solid black style/type, or one of these nice with perforated leather and stitching type?

And morbid curiosity, how much? I just spent (or as "sunk" as my family feels like correcting) a bit of funds on a particularly esoteric project, so I won't be able to buy for at least 3 or 4 weeks.

I know how to hook it up so you can adjust the volume, Cruise and next song forwards and backwards, That's it! I don't need it, I would trade it for a 3 spoke airbag and a hundred smackaRoos or 250 to your door step.
